And the hype is real. Black Myth: Wukong came out a few hours ago and reached 2.2 million concurrent players in less than 24 hours. This is currently the most successful single-player game on Steam. It is also the game with the second most concurrent players in Steam history, only surpassed by PUBG.
Black Myth: Wukong has managed to surpass mega hits such as DOTA 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Palworld and Elden Ring. Counter-Strike 2 is also behind Wukong, as are Lost Ark, Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3.
For anyone interested, here are the top 20 Steam games with the most concurrent players.
To be honest, I didn't really expect these sales numbers. Black Myth: Wukong was actually one of the most anticipated games of 2024. However, I'm sure the game exceeded Game Science's expectations.
It will be interesting to see the number of concurrent players after the first 24 hours. Since the game came out today, I don't expect those numbers to increase over the weekend. I also don't expect it to surpass PUBG. Still, those numbers are impressive already.
Now let's hope that the developers will try to fix some of the issues we've addressed in our articles. Black Myth: Wukong is one of the best looking games on PC right now. However, the game does suffer from some stuttering. The game has stuttering during both shader compilation and run-through. And while these stutters aren't as bad as the ones we saw in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, they can still be annoying. So we hope Game Science does something to reduce them.
If you plan on playing Wukong, I highly recommend downloading the latest NVIDIA driver. AMD will also release an optimized driver later today. And yes, even Intel has released a driver for it.
Stay tuned for more!
