Code Geass is an anime franchise rich with complex characters and intricate world lore that is seen throughout its many series, especially in Lelouch of the Rebellion—the plot of which the one just finished Rose of the Reconquest is based on. With all episodes available on Hulu and Disney+, the series is now free for anime fans to watch in its entirety.
However, there are a few things to note to get you started. Rose of the Reconquestwith a good understanding of what's going on. There's a lot about the franchise's unique worldbuilding and overarching storyline that can be confusing to even longtime players. Geas Codefans, as the original 2006 anime was completed over a decade ago and some details within the newer Lelouch of the Resurrection movies conflict with it.

The recap movies changed several things from the original anime
2006-2008 Lelouch of the Rebellion series is what comes to mind for most anime fans when they hear “Code Geass.” However, before the release of Lelouch of the Resurrection film, three more films were made to not only recap the events of the original anime, but also to present an alternate timeline that differs slightly from it. It is important to keep in mind that the rewritten chronology in the movies is what Rose of the Reconquest continues from.
For the most part, summary films (known as Initiation, TransgressionAND Glorification) don't stray too far from what happened in the original Lelouch of the Rebellion series. The most notable difference is that Mao, who appears in episodes 14-16 of the anime, is completely cut from the story and that Shirley Fenette's father is never killed in the Battle of Narita. As a result, any conflict caused by Mao is erased. The recap movies also change the circumstances surrounding Shirley's death, resulting in Shirley living instead of dying at Rolo's hands as she did in the original anime.

Nina Einstein, in the original Lelouch of the Rebellion series, was a quiet high school student who became disturbingly obsessed with Euphemia li Britannia after the latter saved her during the hotel hijacking incident in episode 8. However, the pre-Re;surrection films wrote this part of her character out. Instead, Nina became known only for her achievements as the creator and developer of the FLEIJA
The Field Limitary Effective Implosion Armament, or FLEIJA, is a warhead capable of completely annihilating an entire city in a matter of seconds. It has become one of the most devastating weapons in the series.and as such, Nina has been targeted by other nations for her hand in such a horrific weapon. However, she has developed the FLEIJA Eliminator, a countermeasure that nullifies the effects of a launched FLEIJA warhead before it can fully detonate.
Damocles played an important role in Requiem Zero
Lelouch made sure it became the most feared thing in existence.
The Damocles is a large floating fortress developed by the Toromo Agency in Cambodia and served as Prince Schneizel el Britannia's main base of operations during the final conflict. Lelouch of the Rebellion. At Schneizel's request, it was loaded with multiple FLEIJA warheads, making it the most dangerous thing in Code Geass at the time. With it, Schneizel had a huge advantage in the final battle, until Suzaku and Lelouch successfully implemented the use of the FLEIJA Eliminator.
After Schneizel's defeat, Lelouch gained control of the Damocles (and thus, the FLEIJA warheads that had been loaded into it) and threatened the entire world with the devastation he could bring to any nation that opposed him. This was part of the Zero Requiem, a plan in which world hatred would accumulate towards Lelouch and Damocles.
Geass leadership abuses ancient power
Geass could spread throughout the world
The Geass Directorate was a secret organization, supposedly controlled by Britannia (as it was led by Emperor Charles and his brother, VV), that studied Geass and produced Geass users. It was initially led by C.C. before he left after discovering that VV had secretly assassinated Marianne VI Britannia. Although there were several Geass Gates scattered around the world, the only known location of the Geass Directorate was a large underground city located in the territory of the Chinese Federation.
The Geass direction was completely destroyed in the original Lelouch of the Rebellion series as well as in the rewritten chronology of the summary films. However, it is possible that not all documents were destroyed and that the remains of the Management still remainas numerous members have been seen throughout the Code Geass franchises, such as Orpheus Zevon and Toto Thompson from Oz the reflection and Jeremiah Gottwald and Rolo Lamperouge from Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Kaguya and the name Sumeragi have importance

Kaguya Sumeragi was the only known member of the Sumeragi family, one of the six Kyoto houses that were left alone to run Japan's major industries after the first British invasion. However, Rose of the Reconquest introduces the existence of Jugo Sumeragi, who became the husband of Princess Sherry me Britannia and fathered a daughter with her. This daughter later became known as Sakuya Sumeragi me Britannia.
Sakuya becomes an important political figure in Rose of the Reconquestand because of his blood relationship with Kaguya (who is affiliated with the Black Knights), moving against the main antagonistic force of the series becomes more difficult. Not only that, but the name Sumeragi, specifically Jugo Sumeragi's influence, becomes a major plot point throughout the series.

The Situmpe Barrier is a giant force field created by Japanese organizations to protect the country from British attacks, which backfired when Neo-Britannia managed to conquer the Hokkaido blockade. It is made with technology similar to Rakshata's Gefjun Distirber, which debuted in episode 18 of the original Lelouch of the Rebellion souls.
Situmpe's barrier completely immobilizes and drains the power source of any machine that comes into contact with it; as a result, it has made the Hokkaido Block impenetrable to outside forces. The Situmpe Barrier is the reason why little action has been taken against Neo-Britannia. The only gates that allow passage in and out are heavily guarded, isolating the island of Hokkaido from the rest of the world.
The Black Knights have undergone changes after Lelouch's death
Zero's legacy still thrives alongside the UFN
After the Zero Requiem, which was brought about by the death of Emperor Lelouch via Britannia, Suzaku assumed the role of Zero and continued as the leader and representative of the Black Knights in the United Federation of Nations. At some point, founding members such as Kaname Ohgi retired from the ranks, and Kallen reduced her role to that of a reserve member so she could focus on building a life outside of political warfare.
New members also join and rise through the ranks of the Black Knights. Cornelia li Britannia, Gilbert Guilford, and Gino Weinberg eventually become core members, with Gino becoming Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Cornelia becoming Lieutenant Commander. The Glinda Knights, initially introduced in Oz the reflectionIt also became another militarized party that prevented the Black Knights from accumulating too much authority as the United Federation of Nations' primary military force.
The British Empire fell after Requiem Zero
A global superpower within Code Geass has met its end
With the death of Emperor Lelouch of Britannia, the Holy Britannian Empire dissolved. Many of the conquered territories, such as Japan and India, became independent nations again. Some of the remaining territories within the Empire reworked their political system and became the Republic of Britannia. under the leadership of Shneizel el Britannia.
Nunnally, who had initially risen to the rank of 100th British Empress by the end of the Lelouch of the RebellionHis title was eventually dissolved due to the dismantling of the British Empire. However, he still holds the political status of honorary advisor within the World Humanitarian Agency, as seen in Lelouch of the Resurrection.

Lelouch now walks a path of immortality alongside CC
Lelouch was killed by Suzaku at the end of Lelouch of the Rebellion as the final step to complete the Zero Requiem, which was supposed to bring peace to the world after the hatred had completely focused on Lelouch and the Damocles. However, in Resurrection In the film, it is revealed that Lelouch survived death, though his memory and consciousness were trapped elsewhere, leaving him an empty, frightened shell of the human he once was.
CC spends a part of the Resurrection film attempts to restore Lelouch's memories, and succeeds after finding a Geass Gate in Zilkhstan. What is the Neo-Britannia Empire?
The remnants of a centuries-old empire refused to surrender
Neo-Britannia is a faction of disgruntled British forces from territories that did not join the formation of the Republic of Britannia after the collapse of the Empire at the end of Lelouch of the Rebellion. Instead, they wanted to re-establish the Holy Britannian Empire by seizing Hokkaido and setting up a puppet regime using one of Charles zi Britannia's young sons, Callis al Britannia, to give them political legitimacy.
At the helm of Neo-Britannia is the Order of Einberg, an elite order of Britannian knights led by Norland von Lunebelg, formerly one of the Knights of the Round. While Neo-Britannia calls itself an empire, it is more of a hyper-coordinated terrorist organization occupying the Japanese block of Hokkaido. and has managed to remain intact for years thanks to the Situmpe barrier.
