Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's first patch is on its way, fixing crashes and controller issues on ultrawide

In the bleak darkness of the distant future, there's only widescreen. Unfortunately, there's no ultrawide at the moment. Maybe they should call it “ultramarinewide” when they add support for ultrawide monitors. Ha ha! Ha. Anyway, here's what's coming in the first round of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 patches.

Saber Interactive's venerable warhammer isn't quite on sale yet – the general release date is Monday, September 9, but some Warhammers have gained early access via the blasphemous Chaotic Pre-Order rite, may the God Emperor indulge their souls. Reaction on Steam has been generally positive so far, but there are a few sore points, such as the lack of ultrawide support, which Saber says they're working on adding.

There are also crash reports, with publisher Focus outlining some potential workarounds. If you’re experiencing crashes in general, consider disabling any middleware you’re using, such as Riva Tuner, Afterburner, or NVIDIA’s equivalent. If you’re seeing the game crash during the first cinematic, the publishers recommend updating to the latest version of Windows, verifying that the game is running on the correct GPU, and updating your GPU driver. And if you’re encountering an infinite loading error while playing multiplayer Operations, try restarting the game — it could be a network issue, or it could be related to you being kicked off your team.

Personally, I think infinite loading errors are appropriate for a game with infinite loading errors (Tyranid horde). Ha ha! Ha. Anyway, if your controller refuses to work with the game, here's what you need to do: Turn off Steam Sign-in (Right click on the game > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Sign-in) and try plugging your controller in via USB.

If none of these cheats get your Adeptus Astartes working, then you'll unfortunately have to wait for some game updates. “We aim to fix all of these issues in our first patches,” Focus promises.

Crashes and ultrawide skipping aren't the only issues Spice Margerine fans are encountering in Spruce Maureen 2. According to Eurogamer , there's a rumor on Reddit about a “hidden installation of Epic Online Services” once you accept the game's EULA.

The Epic client installation is actually specified in the EULA, and as Focus explains, it was “implemented to support optional cross-play between Steam and Epic players and to synchronize friends lists between the two stores.” “However, please note that linking your Steam and Epic accounts is not required to enjoy the game. These features are completely optional and will not impact your gameplay experience in any way.”

Ugh, I need a terrible Warhammer pun to end this post. Could it be something to do with Steam Tanks? Is the game crashing on Steam? Please read Brendy's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 review while I check with the editorial office to find the Warhammer 40K equivalent for a “review bomb”.
