Veilguard Director Reveals First New Feature He Wanted

Dragon Age: Guard of the VeilCreative Director, John Epler, recently revealed the first feature he wanted for the game that was missing from previous titles. The next Age of the Dragon Joining the series will bring a quality of life improvement that will allow players to pick up conversations with companions right where they left off after being interrupted.

Epler revealed on Bluesky that he first encountered the QOL feature in the 2013 zombie survival game State of decay before seeing many other notable titles include the feature. “Resumable banter is one of my favorite little QOL features the team (Dragon Age: Guard of the Veil). I first saw it in State of Decay in… 2013? And it's been in a lot of places since then. Otherwise, you're teaching the player to stand PERFECTLY STILL when they hear the lines,” he said. In previous franchises like Dragon Age: InquisitionWhen conversing with a companion and something triggers combat or a cutscene, players cannot resume the conversation after the interruption, losing the interaction and any potentially valuable information.

THE Dragon Age: Guard of the Veil The director believed that the QOL feature was essential and insisted on its inclusion in the game, explaining: “It's like when we attached an achievement in (Mass effect 1) when reading each investigation and taught players to meticulously exhaust every conversation. I don't die on many hills, but I think that was the first thing I asked for on this project.” Epler also teased other improvements for the next Age of the Dragon episode, adding: “There are a lot of cool little features the team has put into the game to reduce friction, and they're all really lovely!”

The director previously confirmed that the next game would bring a fundamental change to the romance mechanics of the series. BioWare has completely removed the ability to romance NPCs from the Dragon Age: Guard of the VeilEpler, however, insisted that it would still be the most “romantic” of the entire saga, even without the possibility of romance with other characters outside the main cast.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Confirmed as Fan-Favorite Character

BioWare recently confirmed the inclusion of Maevaris Tilani in Dragon Age: Guard of the Veil. Maevaris, a Tevinter Magister and the de facto widow of Thorold, cousin of Varric Tethras, has never appeared in the games and has only been mentioned in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The popular character, however, is present in the Those who speak AND Until we fall asleep comic book miniseries. BioWare has yet to reveal the extent of its role, though given that the Tevinter Imperium will play a prominent role in Dragon Age: Guard of the Veilfans are hoping it will be substantial.

Dragon Age: The Veil Guard will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 31, 2024.
