Why Twin Peaks Shouldn't Have Another Season
Despite rumors that David Lynch's Twin Peaks may be getting another season, the series might be better off resting on its laurels.
Created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, Twin Peaks debuted in 1990 and quickly became a pop culture phenomenon in its own right. The series starred Kyle MacLachlan as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who travels to the eponymous town of Twin Peaks to investigate the disturbing murder of local student Laura Palmer, played by Sheryl Lee. Twin Peaks featured an ensemble cast that included Ray Wise, James Marshall, Peggy Lipton, Sherilyn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Ontkean, and Joan Chen. In the series' second season, Graham was introduced as Annie Blackburn, whose fate is the central cliffhanger of Twin PeaksSeason 2 finale.
Will there be more Twin Peaks episodes after the 2017 revival?
Although a third season was produced and released in 2017, more than twenty-five years after the end of season two, Annie’s fate was one of the many mysteries that remained unsolved. In April, co-creator Mark Frost discussed the possibility of a fourth season. “I think we were happy with the way it ended,” Frost explained before going on to explain how Cooper’s compulsive need to play the hero helped shape the series. “When we thought about it, it kind of revealed Cooper’s tragic flaw, which is that he can’t let things be… And meddling with those forces can have unintended consequences. So I thought it was absolutely the appropriate note to end it on. And you never say never, but we haven’t talked about anything going forward at this point.”

RETRO REVIEW: Twin Peaks is a timeless nightmare and tragedy
Twin Peaks defied genre, convention, American nostalgia, soap opera standards and raised the bar for TV series in the new millennium.
In early August, David Lynch admitted that he was likely retiring from filmmaking due to his ongoing health problems. “I've had emphysema from smoking for so long and so I'm housebound, whether I like it or not,” Lynch said in an interview. “It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold.” Although this would indicate that the chances of a fourth season of Twin Peaks they are effectively closed, in recent years there has been much talk about the possibility of a restart.
Twin Peaks is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
