Trap-filled base-building FPS Meet Your Maker has another free trial

In Behaviour Interactive’s post-apocalyptic multiplayer FPS Meet Your Maker, you build dreary fortresses out of rusty blocks, protruding manglers, and desert sand robot scavengers. Each base holds a container of genetic material and other resources, and the goal is to set up fiendish traps and defenses to keep the humans from getting your precious genmate while you do your best to clear their bases. Sound like some good, wholesome fun? You might want to check out the free trial, available on Steam.

It's unclear from the announcement announcement how long the trial will last. It's also unclear exactly how long Meet Your Maker will last. The shoot-o-builder launched to a largely positive response, but it appears to have struggled to build a following. As of March of this year, Behaviour “[shifted] Following layoffs in January, “the team's focus on new and exciting projects within the company”. Since then, the game has received more superficial updates in the form of seasonal Campaign leveling paths for cosmetic items. Behaviour experienced another, much larger wave of layoffs in June.

Despite all this, Meet Your Maker can be a lot of fun and excitement. The advantage of building an entire theme around raid bases, of course, is that the game is better equipped to deal with a shrinking active player base. I tried it out at launch last year, and while I didn't quite achieve my overall goal of recreating the Central Perk cafe from Friends with roaring cybernetic organisms, I did enjoy getting slaughtered by other people's cheeky contraptions. A lava cube on spikes in the ground, huh? You naughty bastards!

“The art of the trapper is interesting – the activity he has not witnessed with his own eyes,” muses Ata from Darkest Dungeon. Not in this case, Mr Ata – Meet Your Creator comes with a Replay Station that lets you watch other people raiding your maps. Put a few of these together with a Benny Hill soundtrack and you're definitely in the running for a BAFTA. As for “new and exciting” projects at Behaviour – I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of them shelved in the company's recent round of cost-cutting. Dead By Daylight remains Behaviour's flagship production, bolstered by a steady stream of guest stars from other games.
