Toonsouls is the Dark Souls of Cuphead, ready to play journalistic pranks if you own one of the two solid gold games

Toonsouls, which you can find on Steam here , doesn’t seem to take particularly good screenshots. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of perpetually disgruntled ghosts and lovable idiots, but I might not be writing about the platformer at all if I hadn’t seen it in action, where the vision comes together so much more. The Cuphead influence is so extreme that it feels trite to even mention it, and I think a different soundtrack would have been much better in this case, but you can’t deny that Ghosts n’ Goblins is spear-throwing. Dive into it.

Oddly enough, the trailer doesn't look as good to me as some of the short clips that developer Toon Crafter shared on Twxbbly. Maybe the animation on the bun is more fluid? Either way, for a small project, I'm really impressed. Few games have even tried to emulate Cuphead's Fleisher art style (Mouse is vaguely in the same boat), and there's no doubt that much of this required an incredible amount of work.

Also man, I loved that Steam description.

“TOONSOULS consists of two-dimensional graphics where players control a character that walks or jumps between different platforms on the screen. The gameplay is fun and the player can throw spears at enemies to kill them. Your mission is to reach the end of each stage to advance to the next stage.”

Where's the lie? Where's the lie, huh? No lie! This feels like one of those pieces where the author parodies the concept of an objective game review, and I'm smitten. Please do this for every game. Toonsouls is currently listed as “coming soon” and all evidence suggests that's a completely unvarnished statement.
