The original Resident Evil 3 is now available on GOG following the release of its predecessors

Resident Evil's bumbling middle child, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, is now available via GOG, following in the leaked, faltering footsteps of Resident Evil 1 and 2, which also leaked to the platform in June and August respectively.

The release of Resi 3 also has the same features as the previous two games: full compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, new graphical controls, a slightly better user interface, and support for modern controllers.

Resident Evil 3 was originally intended as a spin-off with a different protagonist from the main series, and was developed simultaneously with Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Capcom changed their minds during development and squeezed existing resident Jill Valentine into the game, releasing it as the third main entry in the series. For these reasons, it is shorter than its series mates and slightly less beloved than Resis 1 and 2, or Mikami's magnificent turn as lead designer on Resident Evil 4.

But! But: Nemesis has a nice, scary tall kid hunting the player down in sections of the game; it has pretty much the same charm as Resi 2 (city, pre-rendered backgrounds, good shotgun); and I can never bring myself to think of “short” as a bad thing. The strong 2020 remake also did a good job of cementing its reputation, so you get to play the original 24 years after it first launched on Windows.

There's also so much Resident Evil out there now that it's arguable that Resident Evil 5 is its odd middle child, but let's not beat around the bush. A family can have more than one troublemaker at the dinner table, and you can buy this one from GOG for £9.
