The Maw: What's new in PC gaming this week?

I’m writing this week’s new PC games list in terror because there’s a strange man with a ladder at my window. Did Santa come early? Did Sony’s hitmen finally find me after vowing revenge for the 8/10 I gave God Of War 3 as a rookie reporter? Does the motion detector in the light above the apartment block door need fixing? There’s no time to investigate, and certainly no time to run away, because we have video games to discuss.

Monday 5 August: a soft launch in RPG life sim Fields Of Mistria. Tuesday 6 August: another glass of Norse mayhem in Volgarr The Viking 2, followed by the lo-fi madness of One Btn Bosses and the early access launch of green-skinned kart racer Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks. Wednesday 7 August: piper sim Creatures Of Ava. Thursday 8 August: the slow-moving city-building of Mini Settlers, the eco-puzzles of Preserve, the wardrobe-swapping Soulsliking of Deathbound and the trapping of Balatro in Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers, leaving just enough room in the pot for Steamworld Heist 2. And Friday 9 August, we're celebrating the weekend by filming college dropouts in the toilet at The Crush House.

As always, all of this is powered by the original Man in the Window, the Maw – a lurking and esurient entity from the realms beyond Ken, always hungry for one more video game tidbit, always threatening an interdimensional invasion if left unfed for too long. You can follow and despise our desperate attempts to appease him in the live blog below. Have a great week.
