Max is new four-part game show Fast friends, during which fans of the popular sitcom Friends compete to see who has the most knowledge about the series, now they have a guest. Variety reports comedian Whitney Cummings will be the protagonist of the show.
Cummings said he is excited to host the show. “As a long-time fan of Friends, I am beyond excited to host the first ever game show. After 30 years, the fandom surrounding this beloved series continues to grow, and now I have the great pleasure of rewarding die-hard fans with lifelong bragging rights,“he said in a statement.
Active production Fast friends will begin in October. The show will be shot inside the Friends Experience: that of New York, which is a two-story attraction with 17,000 square feet of recreation Friends sets and memorabilia from the show. A premiere date has not been announced.
The show's logline released by Max provides this summary of Fast friends: “From racing through Rachel and Monica's apartment to zipping through Joey and Chandler's bachelor pad to grabbing coffee at Central Perk, fans will relive their favorite moments as they're put to the test.“
The show is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Dan Sacks, Bridgette Theriault and Dan Norris serve as executive producers and Richard Burgio serves as co-executive producer.
Cummings is also known for her comedy specials being the creator of 2 broke girls, which ran from 2011 to 2017. He also starred in and he created the comedy, Whitney, which lasted two seasons between 2011 and 2013. Both 2 broke girls AND Whitney are streaming on The Roku Channel. Cummings is also an author, after publishing his memoir I'm fine… and other lies in 2017.
Friends, probably one of the most iconic TV series of all time, it ran from 1994 to 2004 and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The show followed a group of close-knit friends as they navigated their lives in New York City. The milestone anniversary was bittersweetbut after one of its stars, Matthew Perry, passed away suddenly in October 2023 due to an overdose of anesthetic ketamine.
In a recent interview, Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin S. Bright spoke out about Perry's death. “It's a huge loss and makes the 30th a little tense,“Kauffman said. “He made us laugh every day” Added Bright.
The future of friends
THE Friends the creators also addressed the problem possibility of a spin-off series,since the show is gathering new fans to this day. Bright said fans, especially pre-teen fans, are asking him if there will be more episodes of the show in the future.
“We understand that a lot,” Kauffman said. “I get emails about it all the time. Everyone has a great idea and the great idea is: their children, grown up, make a Friends show.” Crane said he isn't sold on the idea. “Oh no. No, no, no,” he said.
