A Downton Abbey it was revealed that the star will be the next person to join the cast of AMC's upcoming Anne Rice series, The Talamasca. The new show will be the third series of Anne Rice's Immortal Universe.
Second The Hollywood journalist, Elizabeth McGovernwho played Cora Crawley in Downton Abbey, will star as Helen on AMC The Talamasca drama series, which will focus on the “secret society called The Talamasca, present in many of them [Anne] The Rice novels.” The first season will have six episodes and will show the cast of characters as they follow and contain witches, vampires and other creatures around the world. It is the third series on AMC to adapt Anne Rice's material, following in of the acclaimed Interview with the vampire AND Witches of Mayfair. The Talamasca will premiere in 2025.
McGovern will play Helen, a veteran member of the Talamasca group and leader of its New York Moutherhousewith The Hollywood Reporter noting that McGovern's character “has long suspected that the London Headquarters has fallen under the influence of treasonous elements, and a mysterious death prompts her to recruit Guy Anatole as her protégé.”
Talamasca agents appeared in both Interview with the vampire AND Witches of Mayfairand now McGovern will join Nicholas Denton (Problem, Dangerous relationships) in the main roles of the next story focused on the Talamasca. Earlier this year, Denton was cast opposite McGovern as Guy Antole, opposite William Fichtner (Accident) chosen for a choral role. It remains to be seen whether any of the Talamasca agents seen in AMC's other Anne Rice series will reprise their roles in The Talamasca.
Talamasca builds on the success of AMC's other Anne Rice series
The news of McGovern's casting builds on the momentum of Interview with the vampire finishing its critically acclaimed second season and quickly renewed for a third season. Together with The Talamasca in 2025, a second season of Witches of Mayfair further exploration of Anne Rice's immortal universe is also planned at AMC.
The Talamasca filming is expected to begin in the UK this year. The series is produced by John Lee Hancock, Mark Lafferty and Mark Johnson, who oversees AMC's Anne Rice Immortal Universe. Hancock will also direct the series.
The Talamasca remains in development and is expected to begin airing in 2025.
