Superman and Lois will air its fourth and final season in October. While the series promises to tie up loose ends, the series' titular stars, Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, didn't know what the finale would entail until they began filming.
“I didn't know what the real ending was going to be until we got really close to it.“, Hoechlin told Entertainment Weekly. “We had talked about possible endings over the course of seasons, what we thought would be pretty cool, and even up until about halfway through the season, I was still wondering where they were going to go.” Tulloch also shared his thoughts on the finale, describing it as a “very emotional” episode. “There's going to be closure, and everyone's going to cry in the final episode of the series. I did,” he revealed..
“I think they did a beautiful job of saying something touching,” Hoechlin added. According to showrunner Brent Fletcher, the ending was carefully crafted for the actors and the fans.”I don't think people will think we're ending the show the way we're ending it.,” he explained, teasing the unexpected nature of the series finale. “When it ends and the credits roll, they're going to be surprised.”
Superman & Lois Debuts With Two Episodes
The two-episode season premiere continues Superman’s fight against Doomsday across the galaxy. There will be a lot, a lot, a lot to watch in the premiere with that,” Hoechlin explained. However, fans already know how the story ends, as it was previously confirmed that the show will present his version of The Death of Superman plot taken from the comics in which the Steal Man dies in the fight. “It’s epic,” Tulloch says of the first episode.
“And that throws Lois back into this situation where she's a hero and she has to keep her family together.“, continued Tulloch. “It's obviously extremely shocking and traumatizing just from the pain, but how long do you have to grieve when you've still got Lex Luthor haunting you?And when Doomsday is still around? Not much. She really needs to step up and be the strong one for her family, and she does.”
Fletcher and co-showrunner Todd Helbing have previously teased several cameo appearances in the upcoming fourth season. While the creative duo didn't reveal any names, they did confirm that a “a pretty significant character from the comics that we were actually surprised to get to use, and who we'll see very early on in the season. “You hear someone’s name, then you start hearing them more and more, and then you see that person.”
The last season of Superman and Lois will also provide closure for all the departing main characters, including Dylan Walsh (General Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cortez), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cortez), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons) and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo).
