The hit animated series Southern Park is known in part for its truly unique animation style, though some fans may still be wondering what the show's cast of characters might look like in live-action. A new concept trailer imagines how it might play out, though the casting used isn't exactly realistic.
The concept trailer, created using AI-generated images and voices, was posted on YouTube by MULTIVERSE OF AI. Imagine Seth Rogen directing the Southern Park filming while Jonah Hill does voiceover work as Eric Cartman. Of course, given that Hill is now 40, it wouldn't be likely that he would play Cartman if such a film were to actually be made any time soon. The same can be said for many of the other casting choices, which include imagining other adult actors as the boys, although the concept trailer still does its job of creating a live-action world with Southern Park charactersThe video can be watched below.
In addition to Hill as Cartman, the video also features other fictional cast members: Michael Cera as Stan Marsh, Seth Green as Kyle Broflovski, Pete Davidson as Kenny McCormick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Leopold “Butters” Stotch, James Franco as Randy Marsh, Sacha Baron Cohen as Mr. Garrison, Seth Rogen as Mr. Slave, Craig Robinson as Chef, Will Ferrell as Mr. Mackey, Emma Watson as Wendy Testaburger, Dave Franco as Clyde Donovan, Kevin Hart as Tolkien Black, Emma Stone as Bebe Stevens, Melissa McCarthy as Sheila Broflovski, and Kristen Wiig as Mrs. Cartman.
Kanye West makes an appearance in the video
The end of the video contains a nod to one of the most memorable episodes of Southern Park. A live-action rendering of Kanye West can be seen swimming in the ocean with a school of fish, a clear reference to the episode “Fishsticks” that aired during season 13 in 2009. The episode ended with Kanye admitting to having an attraction to fish based on a joke about fish sticks that he didn't quite understand.
Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Southern Park first debuted on Comedy Central in 1997. The series is still in full swing, set to continue after wrapping up its 26th season last year. In 2021, Parker and Stone signed a new deal to continue Southern Park airing until at least 2027, so fans can expect a lot more in the coming years. The franchise has also recently released new exclusive specials for the Paramount+ streaming platform, with the latest of the bunch, South Park: The End of Obesitycoming out in May.
