A new trailer has been released for the upcoming horror sequel Smile 2A new poster of the film has also been unveiled.
The new poster shows blood dripping in the shape of a smile. The slogan is also highlighted, which reads: “It's the last thing you'll see.” The film will be released in theaters on October 18thbut for now, horror fans can check out the Smile 2 poster and trailer below. In the trailer, horror fans will be treated to a surprise appearance by Drew's Barrymorewho plays herself on her talk show. Barrymore played one of Ghostface's first victims in the original Cryand has also starred in Stephen King adaptations Firelighter AND Cat's eyemaking her a legend of the genre forever.
The synopsis for Smile 2 reads: “As she prepares to embark on her next world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the mounting horrors and pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”
The promotion for Smile 2 includes launching social media pages for the Skye Riley character on platforms such as X and Instagram. There is also an official website, which can be found at SkyeRileyMusic.com. The site highlights the character's most recent single, “Bloon on White Satin,” and is available to stream in full on Spotify, YouTube, and other platforms. Scott performed the vocals for the song himself.
With Scott in the lead, Smile 2 also starring Rosemarie DeWitt (The boys), Lucas Gage (The White Lotus), Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson (Take me to the moon), Ray Nicholson (Suddenly), Dylan Gelula (Kimmy Schmidt Indestructible), Raul Castillo (Cold weather), and Kyle Gallner (Strange treasure). Parker Finn wrote and directed the sequel. Producers include Finn, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner and Robert Salerno.
“If you loved the first movie, you'll love this one,” Gage teased of the sequel in an interview with The Jess Cagle Show“It's so terrifying. It was the first time I've been on a set where I was actually scared, and I actually got sick to my stomach in one take… I didn't think that would happen. It was just so gory and so disgusting,”
Gage added, “It's just so scary. I'm not even lying. I've never been a part of anything that's truly terrified me. The crew was terrified while filming because, I don't know. Parker Finn is, he knows that genre so well.”
Finn also wrote and directed the first film, which starred Gallner, Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher, and Kal Penn. That film was released in theaters in 2022 after initially being developed for a streaming release on Paramount+. The film grossed over $217 million worldwide against a $17 million budget.
Smile 2 will be released in theaters on October 18, 2024.
