A year and a day after the first release of the wonderful horror visual novel Slay The Princess, the promised Pristine Edition arrives this October on the 24th. Like a very prominent label on a very large bag of chips, it promises to have “about 35%” more stuff inside. It's a great game, and it seems like the perfect time to pick it up, especially if you've previously pirated it after the developers said they didn't care.
So what does that extra 35% mean for you, who are savoring the greedy pleasures of extra chips and stabbing royalty in equal measure? Black Tabby has thousands of new voice-overs, over a thousand new drawings, and 17 new music tracks. There are also “significant flashes for The Fury, The Den, and Apotheosis,” all of which have been increased by around a third. There are three new episodes, each featuring a new princess, and a new ending. There's a “deep, interactive gallery to help you chart your progress.” Finally, there's subtitle support for multiple languages, and the date also hints at a release date on various consoles.
There's also some new goodies, a collector's edition, and a celebratory livestream with Black Tabby, details of which can be found here . This is the second major update for Slay The Princess, following an enhanced endgame and orchestral soundtrack in March.
“It’s one thing to build something like this, but it’s another thing to watch people experience it,” Black Tabby’s Abby Howard told me when I spoke to them last January. Pristine Cut was directly inspired by the experience of watching players interact with the game in the wild.
