Rotten Tomatoes Introduces New Badge for High Audience Scores

Multiple channels allow users to rate movies, but Rotten Tomatoes combines audience opinion with critic reviews, all in one place. A staple in the film and television industry, the review aggregation website is now expanding its badge family with a new badge.

Rotten Tomatoes's badges are pretty straightforward. There are three main distinctions: the Tomatometer, the Certified Fresh, and the Popcornmeter. The Tomatometer reflects what critics think of a movie or TV show, which can be “Fresh,” for a movie with over 60% positive reviews, or “Rotten” for a movie that has a rating below 60%. A similar system applies to the Popcornmeter, which is attributed to the audience and can be either full or reversed. As for the Certified Fresh, it is a distinction that distinguishes the best-reviewed movies and TV shows, with a score of over 75% from critics. Until now, there has been no “Certified Fresh” version for the audience, since Rotten Tomatoes has officially unveiled Verified Hot.

Verified Hot improves the conversation from the user's perspective. The new badge will act as complement to the Certified Fresh badgeallowing the public to identify whether the critics' opinions coincide with the general impressions of the spectators.

To become Hot Verified, a movie or TV show must have a Verified audience score of 90% or higher on Popcornmeter. If the film's rating drops below 80% over time, the film will lose its Verified Hot status. All films since May 2019 are eligible to become Verified Hot. In addition to this, the Popcornmeter will also receive a “Hot” label if it scores 60% or higher, or “Stale” if the popcorn bucket tips over.

What are the movies verified as hot?

To qualify for the new badge, the film must be popular with viewers, and since May 2019, there have been plenty of films that fit that description. The fan favorites for 2024 are obviously there, including Deadpool and Wolverine, Inside Out 2, Dune: Part Two (but also Dune: Part One), Twisters, Bad Boys: Ride or Dieand Blake Lively It ends with us.

Unfortunately, 2019 Avengers: Endgame doesn't meet all the requirements, but just barely. Although the film boasts a 90% score on the Popcornmeter, the film premiered on April 26, just a few days before Rotten Tomatoes' new rules went into effect. However, films like Black Widow, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Spider-Man: Far From HomeAND Spider-Man: No Way Home qualified, among others.
