It's long been suspected (if never officially confirmed) that the first Red Dead Redemption would be getting a PC remaster in the near future. We briefly saw a teaser for the PC version on the PlayStation store (of all places). And earlier this year, a curious fan of the studio snooping around the backend of Rockstar's launcher found similar gameplay descriptions buried among the metadata. Yesterday, the same app dropped another hint – the game's Steam app number.
This information comes from Xitter user “TezFunz2,” who has been keeping a sort of cyber-spy on Rockstar's online properties. The Steam app number doesn't really provide much information on its own. You can view and track the game on Steamdb if you want. But the store page won't reveal any real information until it actually goes live (in theory, at least). Still, it's a step toward the 2010 open-world western finally coming to PC. We already know from the PlayStation store leak that the port will feature “PC-specific enhancements, including support for increased resolutions and frame rates.”
There was a brief moment when it seemed the rootin' tootin' remaster would be shelved following the horribly buggy and visually broken release of the GTA Trilogy remaster (it even had to be briefly removed from sale to remove unlicensed music), but it looks like work is finally starting again on it.
It’s worth noting that a developer can add apps to Steam as anonymous items long before they’re released, so that doesn’t mean a remaster is imminent. But it’s been a year since similar ports were released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. And it’s been 14 years since the game first appeared on PS3. Maybe that’s enough time to get a PC release in order?
Anyway, yeah. Leaks are fun. The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 was leaked on LinkedIn (more like LEAKEDIn, right?) back in 2018.
