Ride or Die Becomes a Digital Hit After Box Office Success

Bad Boys: Ride or Die continues to live on in fans' minds months after its theatrical release. The star-studded action-comedy sequel, co-directed by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, gets another boost from its digital performance.




According to Media Play News, Ride or Dieled the Digital Entertainment Group's top 10 digital sales and rentals chart provided by GfK Entertainment for the week of September 2-8. This comes after the sequel directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah topped the video-on-demand (VOD) charts thanks to sales success on iTunes and Fandango.

The latest chart-topping news comes nearly two months later Ride or Die debuted on digital, including a new post-credits scene not seen in the theatrical cut. The digital release of the Sony Pictures blockbuster also includes several specials. Among them, “Will & Martin Chemistry, Legacy & Laughs,” which chronicles the lifelong friendship between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, “The Bruckheimer Legacy: Crafting Bad Boys & Beyond, “Fighting, Camera, Action,” starring franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and “Partners in Crime.”



Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back together again

Smith and Lawrence return as Miami Police Department narcotics officers Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey and Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett, in Ride or Die. Instead of chasing criminals like they usually do, Mike and Marcus find themselves on the run from law enforcement after their former police chief, Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), is wrongly accused of having made illicit deals with drug cartels. As he battles corrupt cops and tries to clear Conrad's name, Mike turns to his estranged son and the man who shot Conrad to death in Bad boys all their livesArmando Aretas (Giacobbe Scipione), offering him a chance at redemption.


Ride or Die boasts an ensemble cast that includes Eric Dane, Paola Núñez, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Melanie Liburd, Ioan Gruffudd, Dennis McDonald, Tiffany Haddish, Tasha Smith, John Salley, and Khaled “DJ Khaled” Khaled. The sequel earned a respectable critic score of 65% and a series-best audience score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed $403.6 million at the global box office, just shy of Bad Boys The film series grossed a record $426.5 million Bad boys all their lives.


THE Bad Boys The franchise looks set to continue, as Smith and Lawrence have expressed optimism about another installment. Additionally, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed behind-the-scenes talks at Sony about another sequel. It should Bad Boys 5 Should that happen, El Arbi teased a possible location move from Miami, making the film series international.

Ride or Die is now available to rent/purchase on several major digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
