The weekend is descending on us like hissing, barrel-throwing psychics, but there’s still time for brief updates on Remedy’s Control 2, which Remedy says is coming along nicely. The same seems likely to be true of Project Condor, the multiplayer Control spin-off that Remedy partnered with GTA and Max Payne 3 developers Rockstar, and the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes.
According to VGC, Remedy announced in its latest financials that Control 2 has “moved into production readiness” after delivering “a build of the game that showcases several key features in playable form.” They are now “scaling up” for full production. The goal is always a teaser trailer with visuals, Remedy. I've never heard a telekinesis sound effect as satisfying as the one in Control.
Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake has also moved “from production prep to full production.” According to Remedy, the development team is currently working on a fully playable version of the game. As for Condor, where you join a group of rogue federal agents seemingly trapped in the Oldest House, “the development team worked on multiple maps and different mission types, and we conducted an increasing amount of internal and limited external playtesting for feature validation and feedback.”
In February of this year, Remedy acquired the rights to the Control series from 505 Games, giving them a say in how and when Control games are released. Remedy also cancelled a Tencent collaboration codenamed Kestrel in May, freeing up resources and people for its existing series.
Since then, as revealed in the latest financial release, they've been “weighing self-publishing and related business models, and discussing different co-publishing opportunities” for both the Control and Alan Wake series. It looks like we can expect to hear more “towards the end of the year.” My suggestion for the future of Control is this: make a spin-off series based on CTRL+ keyboard shortcuts. For example, CTRL+F could be a detective sim, CTRL+O could be open world, and CTRL-Alt-Delete is a special minigame I played with Alan Wake 2 when the ray tracing gave my PC a seizure.
