The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1127, “Adventure in the Land of Mystery,” now available in English from Viz.
One Piece Chapter 1127 was released on September 22nd, 2024, and fans quickly pointed out some of the strange inconsistencies with the chapter. The chapter focuses on Nami and the original East Blue Straw Hats Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp waking up in a strange castle and land. They encounter strange monsters that are quickly dispatched and debut their new clothing for the remainder of the arc.
However, the chapter contains some strange mistakes, from character appearances to mischaracterization of characters that Oda has been writing for decades now. These mistakes have made fans wonder if what they’re witnessing in chapter 1127, “Adventure in The Land of Mystery” is part of some hallucination. If it is a hallucination, that means someone is manipulating the East Blue crew mates in a way that they haven’t noticed yet, or they’ve unintentionally gotten themselves in danger.
10 Nami Is Missing Her Iconic Tattoo
What Does Nami’s Tattoo Mean in One Piece?
One of the first design mistakes involves Nami’s Tattoo. The iconic design was a great symbol of importance for the character as it signifies her escape from Arlong, the man who ruined her life as a child. The change to the Pinwheel invokes Nami’s freedom and her resolution to be her true self without shame or restraint. The Pinwheel represents the combined love of her parental figures, Genzo and Bell-mère.
For most of Nami’s fantastic outfits where her arm is exposed, her tattoo is seen in her design. This isn’t the same for her Elbaf outfit, which seems to lack it. The sleeves of her outfit aren’t long enough to fully cover her biceps or deltoids, so her large blue pinwheel tattoo should appear. If this scene was a hallucination or manipulation of what readers are seeing, then Nami’s tattoo not being shown would be a clear sign of the manipulation.
9 The Crew’s Accessories Change at Random
Drawing Error or Intentional?
What at first seemed like minor mistakes quickly became the basis of the theory that the crew was in a hallucination. The accessories on the Straw Hats, especially Nami and Usopp, seem to be changing locations or being erased randomly. Starting first with Usopp’s bag, which in a few pages goes from appearing to not appearing to appear again. The bag also seemingly serves no purpose as Usopp never reaches into it. It’s more than likely that this is where his ammo is stored. The same can be said for Nami’s buckles, which changed from a flowery design to a square one between chapters.
The most interesting accessory mishap is Nami’s bracelet, which switches arms on the same page. While Oda has had some problems drawing women, a mistake like this seems intentional rather than accidental. When Nami awakens, the bracelet is on her left arm, but when she sits up, it switches to her right arm. Even later in the story, the bracelet disappears entirely. If the characters were dreaming these scenarios, then the explanation for the mistakes could be here.
8 Weapons Are Being Replaced in One Piece
From Swords to Axes to Air
Similar to the accessories but almost in a strange fashion, the weapon mistakes are seen in the chapter. The most notable weapon differences come again with Nami and the Straw Hat captain, Luffy. Weapons are an important part of One Piece, and Oda is very particular about their depiction to show this fact. This chapter has Nami equipped with a sword in one panel that goes away just as quickly. The scabbard could hold her Clima-Tact, but that seems unlikely, considering she throws it with wild abandon. What’s also strange is that it reappears out of nowhere the next time audiences see Nami.
Luffy’s weapon is even more bizarre. When the rubber boy appears in the chapter, he has no weapon on his back, but then, in the next panel, he’s drawn with the handle of a sword on his back, only for it to change into a large wooden handle for an axe on his next panel, which happens on the same page. Rather than a detail being forgotten, it feels almost like whoever is making these manipulations couldn’t decide to give Luffy a weapon. That would explain why Luffy doesn’t mention it or how it appears out of the blue.
7 Which Character Called Nami’s Name?
None of the Straw Hats Called For Her
At the end of Chapter 1126, “Settling the Score,” a mysterious voice calls for Nami, waking her up from her liquor-induced sleep. When the next chapter focuses back on Nami, her mysterious person is suddenly gone. While at first one would think it’s one of the Straw Hats, Usopp in particular, as he is the closest to Nami in the castle, it would go against his character to leave Nami behind. While Usopp has his cowardice streak, it never has been in regards to his friends and fellow crewmates; he’s able to display moments of pure bravery. This trait makes it impossible for him to be the mysterious voice calling for Nami in 1126.
As for the rest of the Straw Hats, the infamous Monster Trio is absent from the castle and meets Nami only at the end of the chapter, so it can’t be any of them. Leaving the only explanation as a character who has yet to be revealed yet. A character telling Nami to wake up, which at first can seem like a physical thing like waking up from her sleep, could also have a double meaning to waking up from the dream that has her trapped.
6 The Form Changing Cat Attacks
Seemingly Out of Nowhere the Cat Changes
The major enemy Nami and Usopp face in this chapter is a cat wearing a crown. A cat much larger than both combined can easily defeat Usopp in one swipe. While a large cat isn’t strange for One Piece, a series that features various bizarre animals, the most peculiar aspect of this cat is how it switches to a tiger out of nowhere. After knocking Usopp and Nami from the castle and not killing either of them somehow, the cat suddenly becomes an enormous lion.
Even Nami is confused by this when she sees how it’s changed. Fans have wondered why this animal would change like this; it wasn’t threatened by Usopp and Nami, it wasn’t injured or needed to become a larger cat to eat them, and it seemingly changed at a whim. Like Luffy’s weapon, the cat may be another concept being thought of at the moment, switching over to a lion when the perpetrator decides that a lion fits the situation better.

Shapes Reality to Luffy’s Imagination |
Luffy’s Gears 1-5 have served as his transformations for the franchise. Each one increases in strength as Luffy gets stronger, and each has its own distinct aspect and naming scheme, with Gear 5 being the most recent and most powerful. Never has Oda confused the naming scheme between the forms, as they gauge the opponent Luffy is fighting relatively well, and each offers different benefits to the Straw Hat Pirate.
This changes in this latest chapter when fans notice that Luffy shouts for Gear 4, but the art depicts him using Gear 3. Fans were quick to point out this inconsistency, wondering if it was possible that this was another hint that Oda was leaving to let readers know that something about this situation was strange. If someone was manipulating the scene, mistaking Luffy’s attack name is a minor detail that they may not have even thought of, especially since Luffy’s naming scheme for his attacks follows a more childish mindset.
4 Monster Trio’s Mischaracterization
Luffy, Sanji, and Zorro Are Acting Strange
Fans were already confused and hyped to see the Monster Trio recreate their famous Alabasta moment with a beautiful spread of them unleashing attacks against the lion monster. Questions began to form about whether these were the Monster Trio that fans knew. While Sanji’s love for Nami is front and center, as well as his dislike for wasting food, what came to fans’ attention was his insistence that they don’t leave behind the bees they knocked out. Fans are aware of the cook’s fear of insects, so to have him seek them out seems strange. On the other hand, Zorro mentions that finding the sea and crew should be their top priority. As the First Mate of the Straw Hats, it’s common for Zorro to focus on the crew’s safety. What’s unusual is that he’s talking about looking for something, and the One Piece trope regarding his inability to follow directions isn’t brought up at all.
The most telling part of this strange dialogue is that Luffy passes up food. Like most shōnen protagonists of his era, Luffy has an affinity for food. One Piece fans have joked about Luffy’s willingness to free countries and fight dictators if someone once fed him. To see him pass up on a giant cat because the earlier food was tasty enough feels wrong. Almost as if someone is misinterpreting Luffy’s glutenous side.
3 The Straw Hats Recently Got Very Drunk
Chapter 1126 Had the Straw Hats Drink Absinthe
During Chapter 1126, the Straw Hats celebrated as they usually do after every arc. This time with the giants that came to their aid during Egghead. There, it’s revealed that the strong alcohol the crew is drinking is an absinthe known as “The Green Fairy.” One of the giants even mentions that the drink is known for making people hallucinate. While at first, it seems as if a random fact, the mention of their drinking makes a reappearance in Chapter 1127.
Nami brings up the alcohol after Usopp mentions that he woke up here drunk as well. She mentions that it was supposed to make them hallucinate, which Usopp takes as a sign that the giant cat won’t bring him any danger if he faces it. This isn’t the case, as the cat bashes him very hard. At first, it seemingly makes the hallucination trait inaccurate. It’s still possible that the Straw Hats are still facing the effects of the Absinthe, which could be the reason for all these mistakes. Usopp has been wrong before, and perhaps Giants have a different way of seeing hallucinations than the humans of One Piece.
2 Luffy’s Treasure Is Gone
Luffy Has Kept His Straw Hat Close Until Now
Luffy’s straw hat is more than a simple and iconic fashion choice. The hat is not only a hand-me-down from Shanks, who received it from Gol. D.Roger, but Luffy regards it as his most precious treasure. Citing the early moments of the Romance Dawn arc, he expresses that his hat shouldn’t be touched. Luffy and Shanks have a promise that Luffy will return the hat when Luffy becomes a great pirate, so Luffy has kept the hat close to him at all times.
Even when Luffy’s outfits changed and featured headgear, Luffy didn’t remove his hat. This only happens when he is disguised as Lucy, a disguise with a Viking motif. Suppose this was a hallucination, and someone was impersonating or creating a fake Luffy. In that case, it’s possible that they are unaware of the importance of Luffy’s straw hat to him and would have him discard it in favor of a Viking helmet. Or suppose the perpetrator only knows Luffy as the Lucy impersonation. In that case, they may be unaware that Luffy has a straw hat.
1 The Prince Loki Is Named After the Trickster God
Could All of This Be His Trick?
The prince of Elbaf was revealed as a silhouette in episode 827, “A Secret Meeting! Luffy vs. the Fire Tank Pirates,” and was named Prince Loki. Since his introduction, the only thing fans have been able to ascertain about Loki is that he is powerful and controls an army of giants. He also proposed to Lola, the daughter of Big Mom, but Lola couldn’t follow through with it. Loki is shrouded in mystery and will most likely be one of the major characters faced in Elbaf.
Loki’s name has fans thinking this may be part of his scheme against the Straw Hats. Named after Loki, the Trickster God of Norse Mythology, the Elbaf prince may love tricks like his namesake. Loki may be using his own abilities or the abilities of a Devil Fruit to play a trick on the Straw Hats. Considering his size, he could easily pluck the Thousand Sunny and the East Blue crew members. At the same time, they were passed out on the Giant Ship from drinking, then placed on Elbaf in an area he could toy with. It would also explain the inconsistencies. Loki isn’t intimately familiar with the Straw Hats and could easily get details about their character and beliefs mistakenly. As for his reason? There’s too much unknown about Loki that Oda has kept secret to guess. As the Elbaf arc kicks off, Loki’s part to play may be the biggest.
