Pokemon Card Shop Raided by Hong Kong Police

Hong Kong police conducted a massive raid on a Pokemon card shop, allegedly used as a front for drug storage. The major drug raid uncovered over a million dollars in narcotics.

According to the South China Morning Post, police raided the shop and the accommodation Pokemon trading cards and goods, on August 19. After a thorough investigation, officers intercepted a 28-year-old man for a search outside the store and discovered 5 kilos of crystal methamphetamine. They returned him to Pokemon card shop, where they found another 16 kilos of methamphetamine in the staff parking area. So far, police have seized 21 kilos of the drug worth $1.3 million. The arrested suspect is one of the owners of the shop and could face life in prison. Hong Kong authorities believe the operation was part of a larger trafficking ring in the area and investigations are ongoing.

Police said the drugs seized in the Pokemon card shop were not distributed or sold to customers or those playing card games at the store. Investigators also confirmed that no teenagers or children were involved in drug trafficking. “But storing such a large amount of narcotics in a place where teenagers and children can go is irresponsible and shameful behavior that also increases the possible risk of teenagers and children accidentally encountering illegal drugs,” said Hong Kong Narcotics Bureau Inspector Liong Chun-Hin.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Reveals New Cards

The Pokémon Company recently revealed some brand new cards for Pocket Pokémon Trading Card Gameincluding a first look at an Articuno-ex card and full-art versions of Squirtle and Pidgeot. The Pokémon World Championships featured several non-competitive events and surprises, while Pokémon fans got a first look at Pokémon TCG Pocket app, which will be available later this year.

At the event, fans were able to open Genetic pinnacle card packs, which will help launch the new card app. While several cards used artwork from physical card sets, they did provide a glimpse of new cards, including the Articuno ex card, plus full-art versions of Squirtle and Pidgeot.

Like others Pokémon TCG Pocket cards, the new cards Articuno ex, Squirtle and Pidgeot appear to use similar mechanics to the original Pokémon Trading Card Game app. Articuno ex gives two rewards when knocked out, just like Pokémon-ex cards in the original game. The cards, however, generally appear to have lower HP and lower energy costs for moves, potentially having a positive impact on game speed.
