Only murders in the building Showrunner John Hoffman has finally addressed the surprise return of Marvel veteran Paul Rudd in the fourth season of Hulu’s acclaimed mystery comedy. Rudd plays movie star Ben Glenroy, who was a major character in the show’s third season.
During the last episode of Only murders in the building In season 4, Rudd made an unexpected appearance as a different character. He was cleverly introduced as Ben's former stunt double named Glen Stubbins. Speaking to TheWrap, Hoffman shared how they found a way to bring Rudd back to the show, despite his character's death in season 3. “I love Paul Rudd and Paul Rudd really enjoys being on the show, and we're doing a season on stunt doubles.“, he explained. “Last year we had a season where Ben Glenroy died, and who Ben Glenroy's stunt double was is not an unfathomable question. And we had dopplegängers all season. It was like, 'Oh my god, this is how we bring it back!'”
Hoffman teased viewers to expect to see more of Rudd's Glen, confirming that his character isn't just a one-off cameo. He continued, “That whole parallel with Charles and Sazz felt sweet and right, and a wonderful opportunity for Paul to return. And there's a lot more to say about that character than just this episode.. There's still a lot to do.” For Rudd's performance in Only murders in the building Season 3, earned an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition to Rudd, lead stars Martin Short and Steve Martin have previously revealed potential guest stars they would like to see on the show in the future, sharing that appearances from Marvel stars Cate Blanchett and Ryan Reynold “would be awesome.”
Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Announced
Only murders in the building comes from Hoffman and Martin, who co-created, co-wrote and executive produced the comedy. The series currently stars Short as Oliver, Martin as Charles, Selena Gomez as Mabel, Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williamsm and Jane Lynch as Sazz, along with newcomers Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, Richard Kind, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherin Cohen and more. Thanks to the continued success of Only murders in the buildingHulu has officially given the show an early renewal for a fifth season, ahead of the season finale’s premiere on October 29. The next installment does not yet have a production start date or scheduled release date.
The official synopsis for season 4 reads: “Charles, Oliver and Mabel grapple with the shocking events at the end of season 3 surrounding Charles's stunt double and friend Sazz Pataki. Wondering whether Sazz or Charles were the intended victims, our trio's investigation takes them to Los Angeles, where a Hollywood studio is preparing a film about the Only Murders podcast. As our amateur sleuths race back to New York, they embark on an even more epic journey: they cross the courtyard of their building to delve into the twisted lives of the residents of Arconia's West Tower.”
New episodes of Only murders in the building Season 4 will be released every Tuesday until October 29.
