Netflix looks set to revive a classic teen drama that rose to popularity in the 2000s. A new report confirms that the streamer is developing a A tree hill sequel series, with some of its protagonists involved both on and off camera.
According to Variety, Netflix is working on the new A tree hill project, which will feature the stars of the original show Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Daneel Ackles will reprise their roles from the OG series. The trio will also executive produce the reboot, with Ackles doing so under her Chaos Machine label, which she shares with her husband and The boys star Jensen Ackles. It is not known if other original cast members will be involved. Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original show, will do the same for the sequel series.
Becky Hartman-Edwards, known for her involvement in series such as Parenting AND Firefly Lanewill write the script and serve as an executive producer. Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original show, will do the same for the sequel series. In the meantime, A tree hillControversial creator Mark Schwahn is not involved in the upcoming Netflix revival. In 2017, Schwahn was accused of assault and harassment by Burton and other cast and crew members during their time on the show. He was also accused of sexual harassment during his time on The royals, Schwahn's career has been on the backburner since the Me Too allegations were made.
One Tree Hill is about to be revived
Set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, A tree hill initially followed two half-brothers, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), as they competed for a spot on the high school basketball team. The show then explored their love lives, friendships, and family drama, focusing on the characters' high school years before transitioning to their post-college lives in season 5. Burton played Peyton Sawyer during the first six seasons, while Bush played Brooke Davis and Ackles starred as Rachel Gatina. The series ran for nine seasons between 2003 and 2012, first airing on The WB before moving to The CW, starting in 2006.
A tree hill has become one of the CW's highest-rated shows, garnering critical acclaim, including winning two Teens Choice Awards, and being considered one of the greatest teen dramas. Only three shows, Supernatural, Seventh heaven AND Small Villathey lasted longer on the CW than A tree hill.
From A tree hill wrapped, Burton, Bush and fellow co-star, Bethany Joy Lenz, co-hosted the show's revisit podcast, Drama Queensalthough Burton stepped away from the podcast after reaching Season 6, with Robert Buckley taking over. Meanwhile, Murray, known for his appearances on Gilmore Girls AND Dawson's CreekSince then he has acted in Fruitvale Station, Agent Carter AND Riverdale.
There is no production or release window for the sequel series. Fans can stream the original A tree hill via Amazon Prime Video.
