Fans of Marvel's Spider-Man will be happy if a new rumor is actually correct. Insomniac Games is reportedly preparing to begin development on the third installment of Sony's hit Spiderman video game series.
The rumor came via GamingLeaksAndRumors on Reddit. Insomniac's requirements in a Senior Gameplay Animator job listing on Greenhouse.io indicated that the developer may have Marvel's Spider-Man 3 in the works. “Gameplay responsibilities include hero traversal, combat, boss, mission, and open world animations at the highest level using advanced skills in game engine tools,” Insomniac's listing reads. The leaker suggests that while the potential hire of an experienced gameplay animator could be for a rumored Venom DLC, there was still the possibility that it could be for the next Marvel's Spider-Man installment of the series. Insomniac, however, also has a Wolverine game in development, which means it could just be for that game.
A possible announcement of Marvel's Spider-Man 3 It seems inevitable, given the tremendous success of its predecessor. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 It was released for PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023, to widespread acclaim, with praise for its storytelling, characterization, and gameplay. The game was nominated for numerous awards, winning six DICE Awards, including Action Game of the Year. The game sold over 2.5 million units in 24 hours and over five million in 11 days, becoming PlayStation's best-selling first-party game title. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 It is currently the best-selling PlayStation 5 game, with over 11 million units sold as of April 2024.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Almost Didn't Include a Popular Feature
If and when Marvel's Spider-Man 3 arrives, fans will expect it to retain the popular fast travel feature that debuted in the previous installment. Insomniac design director Josue Benavidez revealed earlier this year that they had almost cut the feature. “We were working on this new fast travel. It was one of my favorite new features. And it completely destroyed our game. Because the map was completely revealed, you could go anywhere,” he said.
Benavidez hinted that the problem is that players, intimidated by the large open world of Marvel's Spider-Man 2They opened the map, picked a waypoint, and went straight to their destination. Insomniac wanted players to take the time to explore the environment they had created, making the fast travel system antithetical to that desire.
Insomniac eventually decided that the Spiderman 2 the problem wasn't the fast travel system itself. “It was so bad that we thought about cutting it or delaying its unlock until players finished the game. Ultimately I decided, no, fast travel wasn't bad. It was the game that was bad,” Benivadez said.
