Marvel Rivals Confirms Captain America and Winter Soldier in New Trailer

Netease appeared at Gamescom's Opening Night Live presentation to give fans a quick update on the future of their hero shooter Marvel RivalsWith the conclusion of the closed beta, a release date has been set and the roster will be bolstered by two iconic characters from Marvel history.




During Opening Night Live, fans were treated to a trailer from Marvel that provided new information about the future of the game. The ultra-patriotic Captain America and the slightly less patriotic Winter Soldier will be joining the roster as playable characters. Captain America's inclusion was leaked around August 5th of this year by a Reddit user and later confirmed by Miller Ross, a respected Marvel Rivals leaker. Captain America will take on the role of Vanguard, the Marvel Rivals equivalent to a tank; in the trailer, he can be seen charging into battle using his shield to absorb damage and dealing it using a shockwave-like move.

Captain America's former protégé, Bucky Barnes, now the Winter Soldier, will take on the role of Duelist. He can be seen using his pistol for ranged attacks and a grappling hook to pull enemies closer for melee damage. This brings the total number of playable characters to 25 heroes, including deep cuts and off-the-board choices, such as Jeff the Land Shark, Luna Snow, and Adam Warlock. One of the unique selling points of Marvel Rivals is the team play mechanic, where certain combinations of heroes can unlock extra powerful moves; it will be interesting to see what abilities will be unlocked with the addition of Captain America and the Winter Soldier, and who their teammates will be.



Marvel Rivals is coming to systems later this year

A release date of December 6 has been set, and the closed beta has officially come to an end. Impressions of the game during the beta were generally positive, and it garnered around 50,000 players, with many praising the fast-paced action, unique art style, and easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master team dynamics that are essential to victory. Netease has made a point of mentioning their dedication to the game being free-to-play, with every hero available to players at launch.
