Let's have a staring contest

Stranger Video is a website that wants to access your webcam. Accept it and it will show you a close-up of your own face, with a cropped background of your surroundings. Close your eyes to tell you that you're ready, then open them again when you hear a chime. It will now connect you to a stranger who will do the same thing: the first one to blink loses.

You can play the game here.

I'm playing Right now and there is no one else in the world. Let's all play together.

Stranger Video is by Eieio, who makes “things for the 2000s internet.” It has that old school, lo-fi, '00s vibe, like something left over from the personal web. It's also from the creator of One Million Checkboxes, which Edwin wrote about back in June.

Both were nominated for the Tiny Awards, which aim to celebrate “the other web, the small and handmade, the one that's not trying to sell you anything or make money, but instead using digital tools to create the kind of small, personal experiences you won't see in your 'feed.'” This is a treasure trove of beautiful websites.

Anyway. RPS readers, put your staring eyes where your mouth is.
