Kit Harington Reveals the Real Reason He Accepted the MCU Role in Eternals

game of Thrones star Kit Harington made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2021 as Dane Whitman in the feature film Eternals.




In a GQ profile, Harington opened up about his time in the MCU. He admitted that he didn't take the role because he was too intrigued by the character being presented. For Harington, it was simply a matter of accepting whatever Marvel Studios had to offer at that point in his career.

That said, Harington has still said that he enjoys his role as Dane Whitman, confirming that he would be interested in reprising the part if Eternals never managed to get a follow-up film. When the film came out, it seemed like Harington was preparing to return to the MCU as the Black Knight character, which hasn't been explored in Eternals. It has been hypothesized that it could also be part of the long gestation Lama reboot, although his involvement has not been announced or confirmed at this time. Harington has hinted that he would be open to a return to the MCU in the past as well.

“No, not that I know of,” Harington previously said in 2022 when asked if he would return to the MCU, for Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show“That seems like a very political answer. It's exciting to me. The last film… sort of sets up the idea that I might go further, so hopefully. But I think every time you answer questions about these things, people point at you and say 'liar' as if you know more than anyone else. I have no idea. I really don't. I'm waiting for a call about that at some point.”
