Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 270 Recap & Spoilers

The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 270, “The End of a Dream” now available in English from Viz.

Jujutsu Kaisen is in its last two chapters, and with tons of questions to answer and characters to be addressed, Gege Akutami takes Chapter 270, “The End of a Dream,” to reveal the state of surviving Culling Games characters and the relationship between Hana Kurusu and Megumi Fushiguro. The chapter also addresses some of the looming threats initiated after Satoru Go jo’s sealing, like the arrival of the US Army, the reincarnated ancient sorcerers, and the emergence of cursed spirits in Japan.

With one final chapter remaining, fans are eager to see what remains for the series protagonist, Yuji, and his companions, Megumi and Nobara. Akutami teases what’s in store for the three of them in the last few pages of the new chapter. With Jujutsu Kaisen’s final chapter releasing next week, readers are left to wonder if all the tragedy the cast faced will result in a happy ending or if Akutami has one last rug to pull from under his character’s feet.

Megumi Says Goodbye to His Sister

Tsumiki Became the Host of Yorozu Against Her Will

The chapter begins with the morbid imagery of a tombstone with the “Fushiguro” family name etched on it. Now that the major crisis of Sukuna, the Culling Games, and Kenjaku have been put to rest, Megumi finally takes the opportunity to mourn his sister’s body. In Chapter 212, “The Ripening, Part 2,” it was revealed that for the longest time, Tsumiki had been taken over by another one of the ancient sorcerers under Kenjaku’s control, Yorozu. Yorozu had wanted to fight Sukuna and teach him about “love” in her own way. Megumi was crushed by this revelation but barely had time to process it before Sukuna unveiled his reasoning for taking on a binding vow with Yuji and possessing Megumi.

Later, Sukuna would kill Yorozu/Tsumiki as a way to place Megumi’s soul further in depression. Now, Megumi finally has time to mourn his sister, who has been dead for months now. Megumi thanked Shoko Ieri for preparing Tsumiki’s body, and Tsumiki replied that there was nothing to thank her for. She’s glad she got to prepare a body for burial even if she doesn’t believe in the afterlife herself. She also remarks that Gojo should have let her handle Suguru Geto’s body. Megumi speaks for everyone when he reaffirms this statement. Considering that Geto’s body being taken by Kenjaku led to the tragedy that happened, it’s a fair point to make. This is a profound moment for Megumi; allowing him to peacefully mourn his sister after everything that’s happened is a great reward for his decision in an earlier chapter to decide to live. Another interesting moment in this chapter is that Shoko tosses her cigarettes in the trash after one thoughtful look at them. Likely finally giving up the nicotine addiction she had after being surrounded by so much death.

The State of Tengen and the Barriers

The Barriers Separated Jujutsu From Humanity

JJK 270 Tengen's Barrier

Megumi gets a call requesting his presence somewhere else, and the chapter cuts to Gakuganji, Utahaime, and Akari Nitta at the barriers around Japan. There, the three discuss how they found Tengen’s body in the remains of Sukuna after he was torn from Megumi’s body. Previously, Sukuna had ingested Tengen after Kenjaku had taken his body. Because of that, the cast can use the remains of Sukuna to temporarily raise the barriers around Japan. What comes next is a real sign of growth from one of these characters, who was antagonistic near the beginning of the series. Gakuganji was one of the characters who valued the traditionalist mindset of Jujutsu society, pushing for Yuji and Yuta’s execution off of the danger they possessed. However, after events involving Principal Yaga and the other students, Gakuganji’s mindset changed.

When Utahime and Nitta say they must start thinking about a new Tengen plan, Gakuganji tells them they don’t have to rush this. Gakuganji shows that he’s changed his views on the youth by remarking that everyone is still so young, and they don’t have to worry about that yet. The old man adopted Satoru Gojo’s philosophy on youth. Now, instead of forcing the next generation to push themselves and get themselves killed, it is better to keep their childhoods alive. It is refreshing to see that the last few months’ events have impacted the new head of the Jujutsu headquarters. Hopefully, this is Akutami showing that the world is about to change for the better.

The Fate of the Incarnated Sorcerers

Hagane Daido & Rokujushi Miyo

jjk 270 culling games players daido and miyo

After the reveal about Tengen, the chapter then cuts to Maki handing a blade to the Cullling Game players, Hagane Daido, the swordsman with no cursed energy, and Rokujushi Miyo, a sorcerer obsessed with sumo wrestling. The two of them assisted Maki in her battle against the Cursed Spirit Naoya Zenin after he turned into a vengeful cursed spirit. As a sign of goodwill, Maki gives Daido a cursed tool katana and tells them about Japan’s current state of affairs. With the Culling Games no longer a factor, it was announced that cursed spirits would only appear in Tokyo. This announcement guarantees that Tokyo will be the epicenter of cursed spirits for a while. Maki also states that the plan for the incarnated types is to have Yuji and Hana remove them from their hosts, and all the sorcerers caught by the US military must be recovered.

To help the two who came to her aid, Maki tells Daido and Miyo that she’d hide in Tokyo if she was in their position. Daido tells Maki that when his time comes, he hopes that Maki is there so that he can be the one to cut her down. Rokujushi says he’ll be bored inside Tokyo because cursed spirits aren’t fun to wrestle with. The three then all go their separate ways. For fans of these characters and the fight, it is great to see that the two sorcerers could bow out of the series with respect and smiles.

Charles Bernard & Takaba

The chapter then cuts to Charles Bernard, who is dutifully working on his next story. Charles appeared in Chapter 181, “Tokyo No. 2 Colony, Part 1” and fought Hakari. Charles was portrayed as a die-hard otaku and was ready to give up on being a mangaka after the Shibuya Incident paused the publication of all manga. Charles’ motivation was found after a fight with Hakari, where the gambling sorcerer could re-motivate Charles. Chapter 270 shows Charles working on a new piece with an editor. Despite Charles’ newfound belief in himself, he still suffers from the artist’s self-doubt. He cries out that his art is still terrible before the chapter cuts to Takaba, the comedian.

Takaba and a mysterious person who looks like Kenjaku in JK 270

Takaba is discussing their upcoming comedic performance with a stranger. They go back and forth between telling each other what kind of jokes to tell, sex or dirty, before finally leaving the restaurant. The most exciting aspect of this scene is the mysterious character’s near-perfect resemblance to Suguro Geto. Only his face is hidden by a text box. Fans wondered if this meant that Kenjaku or Geto had returned. It’s likely that this is one final joke from the comedian with the ability to warp reality with his powers. Takaba now has a look-alike to the one character who was able to restore his faith in comedy.

Rin Amai & Hiromi Higuruma

JJk 270 Amai apologizes by bowing his head and saying I'm sorry

The next part of the chapter depicts Rin Amai, a former school bully Yuji beat up in Chapter 161, “Tokyo No. 1 Colony, Part 1”. Rin was given the abilities of a sorcerer by Kenjaku. Rin’s cursed technique, sugar manipulation, allowed Rin to create pudding, which was used heavily to heal the injured during the fight with Sukuna. Amai is bowing to the girl he bullied and attempting to apologize for what he did. The girl doesn’t seem to take it well, and the chapter focuses on Higurma.

Higuruma and unnamed lawyer in JJK 270

Higuruma is discussing a current case with an unnamed lawyer. The case will not be moving forward as charges were dropped, which Higuruma predicts that this is a result of Jujutsu Headquarters applying pressure. Higuruma states that the plan must be to put his skills as a sorcerer to work. In previous chapters, Higurma’s talent was considered equal to Satoru Gojo’s. With cursed spirits still rampant, the lawyer with intense skills and a powerful domain will likely be put to work. The lawyer states they’ll get a retrial and nail Higuruma before the chapter cuts to the next part.

The Culling Games characters were part of the most extensive cast of introductions in Jujutsu Kaisen, and they played significant roles in the final arc of the series. Their endings show that the Culling Games incident may have altered their lives completely, but as long as they keep taking steps forward, they’ll be fine. Just as the main cast had to decide to live despite the circumstances surrounding them, the Culling Game players had to learn the same theme. This theme is a constant message in Jujutsu Kaisen, as the series is known for constantly discussing death.

Megumi and Hana Reconcile their Feelings

Hana Was Introduced in Chapter 145, “The Back”

Now finished with the Culling Games characters, the chapter focuses on Hana and Megumi. One of Hana’s significant characteristics is her love for Megumi, motivated by the fact that at a young age, Megumi had saved Hana’s life. This aspect was revealed in Chapter 210, “Offering To The Unknown, Part 2”, and Sukuna abused this love from Hana when he possessed Megumi. Sukuna tricked Hana into hugging him so that he could attack her, tearing off her arm with a powerful attack. Despite how she and Angel have lived in harmony this entire time, even Angel’s warning to Hana couldn’t break through to her. Megumi apologizes for this and promises to take responsibility. Megumi claims that he’ll become Hana’s right arm.

Hana takes this in a more romantic context, assuming Megumi plans to marry her now. Megumi responds awkwardly and is stunned because that wasn’t his intention. Assumably, the two aren’t getting married any time soon. Instead, this comedic scene puts an amicable ending to their relationship, promising they can be friends for now and will likely spend more time together. Megumi states again that he has a mission before the chapter cuts to two mysterious characters.

Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi’s Last Mission

The Main Protagonists Take on a Bizarre Mission

The victim is a 26-year-old man named Fukuzawa Sota, whose eyes suddenly change into giant orbs. This is determined to be the work of cursed energy, so Jujutsu sorcerers were called in to investigate. The perpetrator is unknown, but when the trio of Yuji, Noabara, and Megumi arrive at the victim’s house, they discover that it isn’t Fukazwa who is cursed, but rather his fiancé who sees him with big eyes. The sudden cut to the couple is a bit of a shock, but seeing the three main characters in action again made fans excited, considering the three of them have some of the strongest relationship moments in the series. Megumi notes that the cursed energy residue in the home of Fukuzawa was strong enough to give Ichiji a lousy feeling. Still, he doesn’t feel any malicious intent from the being.

This leads the protagonists to come to two theories. The first theory is that this is a sorcerer who made it through the Culling Games. The second theory is that it is a semi-grade cursed spirit. These cursed spirits have their own free will, so Megumi thinks they may be holding back just to get people to drop their guard. Either way, Yuji says it best. This isn’t an issue that the three of them can’t handle. After defeating Sukuna, Yuji is far beyond the level of a semi-grade cursed spirit. The chapter ends with the note that the gun has been fired for the group’s final mission.

Who is the Final Antagonist?

Large eyed cursed man in JJK 270

Fans have expressed their own confusion and theories about whom the final cursed user is, with one of the significant theories being the hopeful revival of Satoru Gojo. The theory focuses on two aspects known about this cursed user, the first being that a character’s perception and eyesight are affected. As one of Gojo’s main traits was his six-eyes, Akutami may be employing symbolism to hint at Gojo’s return. Another theory is that this is Sukuna’s return, as in his final moments, he stated that he was a curse no matter what.

Some fans have speculated that this aspect of Sukuna’s last words has made him reincarnate as a weaker-grade cursed spirit. However, a final third option is entirely possible. This could be a new foe that the trio will fight and defeat in the final chapter, serving as nothing more than a footnote to show audiences that the main characters will be able to handle whatever threat comes their way. The only way to know is to read the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen when it releases on September 29th.

Yuji Itadori sits underneath the looming figures of Gojo and Kenjaku in the Jujutsu Kaisen poster.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen follows the evolution of Yuji Itadori, a boy who swallowed a cursed talisman – the finger of a demon – and became cursed himself. He enters a special school for sorcerers to learn to control his new abilities and gather the rest of the demon’s parts, so he can consume them and then be eliminated.
