Jon Bernthal Didn't Want to Return as The Punisher Without Karen Page by Deborah Ann Woll

Jon Bernthal and Deborah Ann Woll will reunite in Daredevil: Rebornthe next series which serves as a sequel to Daredevil and its spin-offs. The reunion made the perfect return for Bernthal, who didn't think Frank Castle's return would make much sense without Karen Page.

Currently under development, Daredevil: Reborn will bring back Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio to reprise their roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. Following the announcement of the two actors' return, it was later revealed that both Bernthal and Woll would be among the returning cast members from the original series. In a new chat between the two actors for Bernthal's The real ones podcast, the Punisher actor explained how he didn't feel motivated to return for Daredevil: Reborn without Woll's presence, given Frank's connection to Karen.

“When I go back to do this thing, I say to myself, I can't do it – I can't play Frank Castle without you,” Bernthal told Woll. “I can't. It's like I want a reason. Why is it there? What is it doing there? It's like, if it's not you… everyone else is gonedo you know what I mean?”

Daredevil: Born Again was originally supposed to ignore the previous series

When the TV show was first put into development, it was supposed to serve as more of a soft reboot with Cox and D'Onofrio playing variations of their Daredevil and Kingpin characters. Woll was not slated to be a part of the project, and at least one other character from the first show ended up being recast. Midway through development, however, Marvel Studios pulled the plug, opting to reboot the show from the ground up under new direction. It has since been confirmed that Born Again It will be a continuation of the original Daredevilrecognizing the events of that series and its spin-offs as MCU canon.
