John Cena Explains the Wait for Peacemaker Season 2

Peacemaker Season 2 will be worth the wait. At least, that's what lead star John Cena recently said when asked about the three-year gap between the show's first and second seasons.




While speaking to Variety to promote the mobile game Stars of the fight' collaboration with SpongeBob SquareCena offered a brief update on Peacemaker Season 2, in which the actor returns to the role of the anti-hero Christopher Smith/Peacemaker.We are in progress. This is the safest answer I can give without anyone knocking on my door and telling me I'm fired.” Cena admitted, “Personally, I'm very happy, so I hope that translates to everyone who's waiting for it.”


Filming for Peacemaker The second season is set to premiere in April 2024. Regarding the three-year production gap between seasons, Cena explained that the blame lies with DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, who didn't want to rush it. Peacemaker back into production before they figured out how to seamlessly integrate the anti-hero into the new DC Universe.

“What you have to understand and keep in mind is that I’m the guy who plays Peacemaker,” Cena said. “So when we come out with a show and it’s the No. 1 show on Max and finally we take a character who should be dead, we bring Peacemaker back and people enjoy the universe and want to see more of it, but then there’s a change in the structure of who’s in charge at DC. James and Peter both called me and said, “You know what? We want to take some time to get this right. But it's just going to take a little time.”


The actor continued, “So it was crazy to know that we did something that people want, they want more, let's do it again. And everybody's like, “No wait, we just have to do a couple of things first. And we have this whole plan, and it's all going to work together. So if you trust us, everything's going to be fine.” And it seems like an eternity ago, Now that we're shooting every day, it looks like we'll be watching season two soon.”



Peacemaker Season 2 to Release After Superman

Cena's Peacemaker is one of the few characters who will be making the jump from the DC Extended Universe to the DCU with very little change to their backstory. Gunn has already confirmed that the events of Peacemaker Season 1 took place in the DCU, though the season itself will not be considered canon to the shared universe. The second season of the fan-favorite DC series is expected to be the third entry in the DCU, with Gunn recently revealing that it will be released on Max after Superman arrives in theaters. The first DCU project, the animated film Commando Creatureswhich is scheduled to premiere on Max in early December.

Peacemaker returns for a second season on Max in 2025.
