Ironheart's The Hood Isn't Like His Comic Book Counterpart, Anthony Ramos Teases

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams will return to her hometown of Chicago, Heart of Ironwhere he will reunite with Anthony Ramos' Parker Robbins. Ramos recently spoke openly about playing Parker Robbins, aka The Hood, in Heart of Ironwhich was reimagined for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at D23, Ramos revealed that Marvel Studios changed his character's history from the comics to make him a Chicago native instead of a New Yorker. “Parker Robbins in the comics is from New York, but being able to flip his history and having him come from Chicago, we had him come from Humboldt Park, which has, obviously, a large Puerto Rican population,” Ramos explained. “We created this backstory with his mother being a Young Lord and we raised him that way. Chicago plays a huge role in the identity of all our characters and the identity of this show, so I'm really excited for people to experience that. It was a gift to be able to shoot there. It's a fantastic city, one of the greatest cities in the world.”

Who is Parker Robbins/The Hood?

Created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artists Kyle Hotz and Eric Powell, Parker Robbins/The Hood first appeared in his own self-titled limited series in July 2002. An expert marksman, Hood originally wore a cloak and boots stolen from a Nisanti demon and granted him the powers of invisibility and levitation. In Heart of IronThe character will be an ally of Riri Williams/Ironheart (at least initially) who is in possession of a hood that allows him to tap into the dark arts and magic. While unconfirmed, there have been reports that Parker will receive this magical hood from Sacha Baron Cohen's “Mystery Man,” rumored to be Mephisto.

Resume after 2022 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Heart of Iron follows Riri Williams as she returns to her studies as an MIT student, leaving her gown behind after the tragic events that killed Queen Ramonda. The highly anticipated series will presumably focus on the differences between technology and magic, with Ironheart representing the former and The Hood the latter. Unlike New York, which has been explored in numerous MCU films and series, Chicago is a blank canvas, with Thorne is excited to bring the MCU to the city. While Ironheart is the focal point of the Disney+ series, Ramos hinted that Chicago is “a great character,” which should bring a smile to Marvel fans who hail from the Windy City.
