Here's a free miniature city builder with a tram from the creator of Viewfinder

Sometimes I want to play a video game, and sometimes I just want to build a quiet little Dutch town with iron bridges, fountains, and tiny trams that move like bumblebees. The project in question is Tramstertram. A browser-based construction toy from Matt Stark, creator of the terrible pun but actually quite beautiful Viewfinder.

Released a few hours ago, Tramstertram gives you a rotatable 3D scene with a variety of tiles to place – townhouses, streets, tram tracks and parking areas, all of which combine to form larger structures. It’s an homage to Townscaper, but not nearly as detailed, a little gift left on a digital windowsill for any passerby who might need to spend a few minutes watching a tram streak through a row of trees, sparks flying.

Tramstertram comes with a small selection of prefab towns, including a fourth map that reveals the alchemy behind tile combinations, and the ability to copy and paste a world code to share your creations. If you're not really into trams, Stark has an extensive history with that sort of thing, having made similar building toys that include tree houses, fish tanks and mine carts.

A nice note to end the week, I guess? If you need a bit more meat on those bones, check out the “whimsigoth” cottage builder Tiny Glade, which is due to be released this year – Kiera loved it.
