Captain America: Brave New WorldCasting has confirmed that it will have at least one connection to Lightningas reported. With the role of “Thunderbolt” Ross / Red Hulk, Harrison Ford's MCU debut parallels the careers of his fellow actors.
The MCU now boasts a huge ensemble of characters from across the multiverse, played by a very diverse cast. The franchise also has a long list of award-winning actors, including Robert Redford, Tommy Lee Jones, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Russell Crowe, to name a few. Iron Man It's also considered the film that relaunched Robert Downey Jr.'s career, and now it's returning to kick off a new era for the MCU. Harrison Ford hinted at this on an episode of The Official Marvel Podcast, where he revealed why he joined Captain America: Brave New WorldReiterating a previous statement, he said he had seen his colleagues enjoying franchising and wanted to see what it was all about.
“I've seen other actors, brilliant actors, having a lot of fun.“, he said. “I'm not a brilliant actor, but I thought I'd have fun.“Ford made the same comment in 2023 when asked about his decision to join the MCU; he said that he sometimes takes unusual roles to keep things interesting. “Every now and then I like to play a character that is very different from me, and sometimes it's less commercially successful than the movies where people come because they know the product and what I'm likely to do in it.,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. It seemed like an apt description of his turn in the MCU, which finally debuts one of Hulk's best supervillains.
Harrison Ford Debuts in the MCU as a Raging Colossus
In Captain America: Brave New WorldFord will play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, an established MCU character previously played by William Hurt. The film's first teaser confirmed that Ross will finally transform into Red Hulk, a recurring character in the Avengers comics. Red Hulk is also a main protagonist (or anti-hero) in 2012 Lightning graphic novel; this story arc is said to be adapted into Lightning film. Similar to Mark Ruffalo's role in AvengersFord will play both iterations of his character in The new worldas the leader of the free world and as an unstoppable brute.
Ford has said he's enjoying his time in the MCU, aside from one issue; he didn't like the motion capture process required to play Red Hulk. He's been candid and honest about the experience. “What did it take? It doesn't matter,” he told Variety. “It took being an idiot for money, which I've done before. I don't want to belittle it. I'm just saying you have to do certain things that your mother wouldn't want you to do, or your acting coach, if you had one. But it's fun and I enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun and I'm happy with the response we got with the trailer.” Ford's character is one of The new worldmain antagonists.
Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
