Graphics comparison between Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 offered true next-gen graphics when it was released. Even today, this flight simulator looks fantastic. And believe it or not, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will look WAY better than it did.

YouTube's “ObsidianAnt” shared the following video comparing the 2020 version with the upcoming 2024 version. And as you'll see, MSFS 2024 almost looks like a next-gen title compared to MSFS 2020.

The developers claimed to have increased the detail of the virtual environment by a factor of 4,000. For example, the ground is no longer just made up of elevation fields. Instead, there are now small stones, rocks, gravel and grass. Players can also look forward to better skies and atmospheric lighting, especially at sunrise and sunset. There will also be new cloud types such as cirrus clouds that better simulate the highest layers of our atmosphere. In addition, the game's dynamic weather has also been improved. Storms and other weather phenomena will now look much more realistic and impressive when you fly through them.

It has also been confirmed that the game will have ray tracing. For now, we know that the developers will use RT to enhance the shadows, so here is a comparison between RT On (left) and RT On (right).

We could go on and on about all the graphical improvements, but words are often meaningless. Just watch the video. This is a huge visual improvement, so kudos to the developers for making one of the best looking PC games even better.

In addition, Microsoft has announced the game's official PC requirements. According to them, PC players will need at least an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i7-6800K with 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or an NVIDIA GTX 970. MS recommends using an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X or Intel Core i7-10700K CPU with 32 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon 5700 XT or Nvidia RTX 2080. You will also need 10 Mbps or 50 Mbps internet connection.

Finally, we have the “ideal” PC specs. These should provide the best experience, although we don't know their resolution, frame rates, and graphics settings. According to them, you'll need an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X or Intel Core i7-14700K with 64GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT or an NVIDIA RTX 4080.

Microsoft will release MSFS 2024 on November 19th.

Enjoy!
