THE Young Sheldon the sequel series is fast approaching, as Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage will debut on CBS in October. Ahead of the premiere, new character portraits have been released, offering a closer look at each of the show’s main characters.
Of course, the series brings back Montana Jordan and Emily Osment to reprise their respective roles as Georgia AND Mandywho now lives in the McAllister house after getting married. The series also stars Rachel Bay Jones as Audrey and Will Sasso as I amMandy's parents. They have guest-starred on Young Sheldonbut the two will be the main characters in Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.
Jessie Prez also stars in the series as Reubenone of the garage employees who works for Jim. Rounding out the main cast is Dougie Baldwin as ConnorMandy's brother. Both actors are new to the franchise, although Connor appeared briefly in one episode of Young Sheldon with Joseph Apollonio in the role.
Ruben and Georgie might have some friction in the series
“Ruben is Jim’s longtime employee at the tire store,” Prez said of his character during a conference call with reporters Thursday, according to TV Insider. “Georgie is young and inexperienced and Ruben has feelings about that… [I’m excited] to see how their frenemy dynamic develops.”
Baldwin also said of joining the cast: “It's super surreal… Chuck [Lorre] It really creates a family environment and hires good people… that's a good way to do comedy. [to] make people be nice and normal. And so everyone has been super welcoming and super, super sweet.”
There will be some familiar faces and Young Sheldon the stars will appear from time to time in Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. However, the spinoff will have a very different feel in some ways than the parent series. Without Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) around, there won’t be nearly as many science jokes, executive producer Steve Holland noted. Even so, it’s been teased that the new show will continue to bring back what fans loved about the previous series.
“These stories feel very real and relatable to us.” He also noted, “They feel like part of the same universe, but this other little part has been fun.” Holland admitted, “After writing about science and scientists for so many years, it’s a bit of a relief not to have to do that.”
Even without the science, there is familiarity, as the executive producer told reporters, “It's Young Sheldon in a slightly different format than before. But I think all the things that people loved will still be there.”
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage will debut on October 17, 2024 on CBS.
