Purnell recalls how Burton gave the Miss Peregrina left room for creative freedom throughout the production. “He I always let you do your thing in the first one or two takes, and then he'll direct you,” she explained. “He always seems collaborative, which is essential, and my favorite part of the business. And also, crucially, directors have to have answers. Sometimes, you don't know why your character is saying this line, or what it means, or how they really feel about it, and will always have an answer. He's thought of everything. There's no need for him to come and tell you everything right away, he'll let you figure it out on your own.”

Miss Peregrine was a turning point in Ella Purnell's career
In a previous interview with Crash, Purnell confirmed his casting in Miss Peregrina It was a turning point in my career. “It was definitely a life-changing thing,” she said. “It was also a massive turning point in my career and my life. I had just finished my A-levels and everyone had just left school. It was the end of an era, the beginning of my adult life. It was terrifying but exciting. I have so many fond memories of that job. It was the longest shoot I've ever done, about six months.” Purnell has since starred in a number of hit shows before starring in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead.
