Ewan McGregor's forgotten 2013 fiasco gets new praise from VFX artists

The 2013 film by Ewan McGregor Jack the Giant Slayer is garnering new praise from VFX artists more than 10 years after its release, according to a recent article from Screenrant. The film, which grossed $197 million at the box office and had a budget of nearly $200 million, was recently broken down into a video by Hallway staff. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, who will play Lex Luthor in the DCU.

Hallway staff he praised the authentic appearance of the giants. They noticed that the monsters often moved at a slower pace, but the giants moved much faster, making them even more terrifying and entertaining for viewers. The video also highlighted how the giants' speed made them seem more real.

Here are some comments from the video:

“When they move fast, it's just so much better. It's the same with zombies. When they stop being slow, they become so much scarier. 65 giants, oh my god! That's so sick! Conceptually, these fast-moving giants are something I would like to see more of.
It's an example of how fast a person of that size can be.”

“The fidelity of the texture work on the hands and knees, it's like when you get up close, the detail is extreme, and the effect is really, really beautiful.”

The public and critics did not appreciate it Jack the Giant Slayer the way The Corridor Crew did it. The film has a Tomatometer score of 52% and a Popcornmeter score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unlike VFX artists of Hallway staff, Critics thought the film overemphasized digital effects and that the effects didn't top the story. Critics also said the story lacked substance and was impersonal and forgettable, despite the strong performances from the cast. Popcornmeter Rotten Tomatoes' 55% score was only slightly higher for the darker tale “Jack and the Beanstalk.”

The cast members' careers were not affected.

Although the film's performance was disappointing, the cast's careers were not affected. Many of the actors in the Jack the Giant Slayer cast managed to overcome the box office flop. Hoult, who is known as the young Hank McCoy/Beast from X-Men: First Class returned to the Marvel Universe for another three The X-Men film. McGregor also found success after the film in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which portrays the title character. Additionally, Ian McShane has found success in all four John Wick film, playing the character of Winston Scott. Bill Nighy received an Oscar nomination for best actor in the 2022 film Life.
