With his redesigned glasses and able to achieve his iconic pose, the new toy is a work of art both vile and good, ready to reunite with Yui. New Gendo Ikari Figure Evokes Evangelion Reconstruction
Produced by FREEing and sculpted by Monolith, the new Gendo Ikari figure from figma line has all the style and charm of the character — or lack thereof. Recreating his look from the Evangelion Reconstruction series, stands 6.50″ tall and is fully articulated thanks to the flexible “figma joint” system. This means it can be posed and bent in any way collectors want, making it the first and last toy they will need to recreate scenes from the reboot films. Added to this are multiple hands that can be interchanged to achieve these poses, including its iconic move where it rests its nose on its interlocking fingers.
Along with his visored face, a change the movies made to his original design, another optional face shows him without his “glasses.” To support his poses, Gendo also comes with an articulated stand, making it easy to place him on a desk, table, or shelf. Collectors can pre-order the figure now from Good Smile Company, but will have to wait until nearly Third Impact to get their hands on it. figma The Gendo Ikari figure won't ship until Q3 2025, giving fans nearly a year to wait. Several new Evangelion figures are coming soon
Given the continued popularity of the franchise, Neon Genesis Evangelion still has several toys, figures, and other collectibles being released today. Many of these are based on the mecha units of Evangelion, most notably the EVA-01 piloted by Shinji Ikari, son of Gendo. These range from recreations of the original design to more creative interpretations of the iconic mecha, including a samurai-themed Evangelion figure. In addition to these mecha collectibles, there are also several new toys in development for each of the recognizable EVA pilots from the series. Most of these are based on pilots Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley-Soryu, with the former being perhaps the most iconic part of the franchise.
Currently streaming on Netflix, the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime helped usher in a wave of philosophical deconstructions of anime and international popularity for anime as a whole. The show is known as much, if not more, for its dark psychological themes and religious symbolism as it is for its mecha battles between EVA units and angels. The classic anime series is now nearly 30 years old, with the Evangelion Reconstruction reboot films that end in 2021 with the release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Three times once. This was the fourth and final installment in the film series, which re-imagines the events of the original show and characters including Gendo Ikari, with the film grossing nearly $100 million at the box office.
