Teenage Wolf Actor Dylan O'Brien was in line for a possible role in the Disney and Pixar film Frozen 2but the casting wasn't meant to be. Although he completely failed his audition, O'Brien wasn't exactly surprised, as he went into it with a feeling he wouldn't get the role.
“I knew I probably wasn't going to get it,” O'Brien said during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyersaccording to THR. “They're looking for multi-talented, multilingual people who can act and sing. And, to be honest, I probably haven't checked either.”
O'Brien didn't name the role he was applying for specifically, though he did note that it would involve singing. Unfortunately, that alone was pretty much the deciding factor, as O'Brien is, admittedly, someone who “I can't sing.” He said that both he and the casting director knew, as he sang, that he wouldn't be up to par, and by the end of the audition they agreed that he wasn't up to the part.
Dylan O'Brien Had Trouble Singing for His Frozen 2 Audition
“This poor woman,” O'Brien explained. “I remember, actually — this is a specific detail — she asked me, painfully, if I could get to the chorus because she needed to see if I had a certain range… [I was] swimming a little in the first verse [and eventually] he went higher… it was really bad. I knew it. She knew it too. That's okay.”
“When he said, 'Okay, okay' … He said two 'okays. ' I'll never forget that,” O'Brien said. “And then he said, 'Thank you for coming. I think we could probably use a slightly stronger singer.and I was already nodding, like, 'Yeah, I know.' And I was like, 'Thanks for inviting me.'”
“I honestly just remember him fondly,” O’Brien concluded, noting that he wasn’t upset by the rejection.
O'Brien's latest project is a film titled Caddo LakeProduced by M. Night Shyamalan, the film was directed by Celine Held and Logan George. Set around the real Caddo Lake on the Texas-Louisiana border, the film tells the story of a young girl's disappearance in the area and how it connects to previous deaths and other disappearances at Caddo Lake. Along with O'Brien, the film also stars Eliza Scanlen, Lauren Ambrose, Eric Lange, Sam Hennings and Diana Hopper.
Caddo Lake will debut on Max on October 10th.
