Dying Light: The Beast is a new indie game from Techland

This seems odd. I’m only superficially familiar with the Dying Light games, but I get the impression that the model here is to release a single game, then update and expand on it for years. Whether or not indie adventure game Dying Light: The Beast is an attempt to course-correct after the mixed reception of Dying Light 2, then I’m not entirely sure. But if nothing else, it has something in common with every other ad at Gamescom tonight: a game that exists and will probably be playable at some point.

There's a Steam page for it too. It's “a thrilling, indie zombie adventure set in a tightly designed countryside,” it says. There's no release date yet, but it does feature four-player co-op. Here are a few more details about the setting:

This once bustling tourist destination is home to a dwindling number of survivors and a growing number of zombies. Featuring natural landmarks, small villages and industrial complexes, the environment offers a variety of traversal options, including using your parkour skills to outmaneuver your enemies or jumping into an abandoned 4×4 to escape the terrors of the night.

“I'm glad it's not 500 hours long. As a freelancer it would cost around 30p an hour but more importantly for you, there aren't enough characters in Dying Light 2 to hold your attention for more than a quick 30,” Matthew wrote in his (peaceful RPS) review. “We should all be lucky enough to be faced with a world this sober when the real zombie apocalypse comes.” Let's hope The Beast is a bit more brutal.
