DC Universe Fan Art Imagines Jim Carrey in the Perfect Role

A piece of DC Universe fan art by Davi Alves imagines Jim Carrey as Mister Mxyzptlk. Before that, Superman DC Studios writer, director and co-head James Gunn has revealed what he would title a Batman and Superman crossover film.




Shared on Instagram, the artwork in question features Mister Mxyzptlk with text at the bottom that reads: “Starring Jim Carrey.” Next to him is another text that states, “Targeting Superman again! The imp of imps… Mr. Mxyzptlk!” To bring to light Superman Yes, Gunn hinted at how Christopher Reeve's Marvel's Metropolis influenced his 2023wondering how you can take “this outrageous concept of a guy flying around” and turn it into something real.

“I think, you know, what we're doing is different,” he added. “It's its own thing. But I'm definitely influenced by what [director Richard] Donner did with Superman, and what Christopher Reeve did with Superman, and Margot Kidder, who is fantastic in the movie. She really is the heart of it in a lot of ways.

“Targeting Superman again! The imp of imps… Mr. Mxyzptlk!”

Additionally, Gunn promised that Superman it won't seem like a Guardians of the Galaxy film, declaring: “I learned so much making [the Guardians of the Galaxy] film. But it's not like Superman will have exactly the same atmosphere as a Guardians movie. It's actually quite different.” Tying into this, Gunn also promised that the Man of Steel's new theatrical outing won't be a silly affair, as Gunn is committed to bringing a real superhero movie to the big screen.


In addition to this news, Gunn elaborated on why other DC heroes are in the project, saying, “They fit the story I'm telling. The story always comes first.” Gunn later stated that Superman will not be used to set up future DC Universe films.

More recently, Gunn hinted at why Superman is the “true beginning” of the DC Universe after Commando Creaturesstating that Superman is “a gigantic epic.” He went on to further note that Commando Creatures it's “a way to let people taste a little bite and feel the flavor.”

The DCU starts this December with Commando Creatures on Max, followed by Superman in theaters July 11, 2025.
