DC Comics' Most Recent Superman Comics

Superman is experiencing a creative renaissance the likes of which the character hasn't seen in years. Thanks to writers like Jason Aaron and Joshua Williamson, both the character and the world of Metropolis seem like the best part of the DC Universe for sci-fi superhero fans.

After returning from Warworld, it seems impossible, but Superman is more powerful than ever and is taking on even greater responsibilities. He has rallied all the members of the Superman Family around him, resulting in an expansion of the Superman line of titles. While Superman is still easier to keep up with than Batman, there are still plenty of comics for fans to read.

Action Comics #1068 challenges Superman to protect Metropolis from a twisted alien empire

The “Challenge from the Stars” storyline by Gail Simone and Eddy Barrows continues! Superman has been drawn into the business of protecting an innocent planet from the Gorathian Empire, a ruthless alien race that conquers planets by making champions face impossible challenges. Superman needs everything he can to protect an entire aircraft carrier from falling on Metropolis, but passing the Gorath Test of Strength means little against the Test of Knowledge. To test Superman's wits, he is challenged to protect the Bottle City of Kandor. from deadly supercomputer-powered weapons in just three seconds! Even if he succeeds, though, there is still one more challenge to face, and even the Man of Steel may not be enough to conquer it.

In the back-up, Rainbow Rowell and Cian Tormey test Lois and Clark's relationship. With Lois having taken over as editor-in-chief, she decides that Clark is a bit pure close to many of the stories she’s covering. To keep things even, she takes Clark’s pace, letting him write about the drier topics of Metropolis. Will their relationship survive her tenure as editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet? Is Superman effective even when he’s far from the action?

Power Girl Vol. 3 #12 Introduces Paige who has her date night in Valhalla

After Axel and Paige reveal their secret identities to each other, Axel offers to take their date to a more enticing place: Asgard! Traveling to another part of the Nine Realms, Axel is able to show Power Girl the battlefields of Valhalla, where she demonstrates her might as a warrior by defeating every other soldier there. But that's just the beginning of their date, as Power Girl challenges Axel to a contest to test out her new magical artifacts.

With all the awkwardness removed from their date, Axel finally feels comfortable inviting her to his secret hideout. There, he reveals some of the most powerful magical weapons he has recovered to keep them out of the hands of humanity. One magical item might put a bit of a damper on their date, however, when it shows Omen in danger.

Kneel Before Zod #8 features Zod facing his biggest challenge yet

Zod manages to free himself from the Emerald Empress and her Emerald Eye just before confronting a familiar acquaintance. Deep in space, Zod confronts Thaal Sinestro, who now wields a Red Ring of Rage. Although the two fight at first, it only takes a brief conversation before they both realize they have no real reason to fight each other. Instead, Sinestro offers Zod a bit of information on how to repair his ship before departing.

A month later, Zod and his ship of villains find their way to a planet capable of repairing their ship. There, the specter of Jor-El confronts him again, prompting Zod to vow to defeat one of DC's most powerful heroes, Kal-El. However, he has another goal first: to discover the homeworld of the Khunds and pay them back for what happened at New Kandor.

Superman (Vol. 6) #17 Take Superman and Zatanna on the path of dark magic

Superman enjoys a connection with the Absolute power event, as Metropolis suddenly finds itself without its protector. Without Superman to look out for her, Waller and her army are free to do whatever they want to the city, including destroying it in their search for Lex Luthor. However, with Lois using one of Lex's suits to fight off Waller's henchmen, Lois, Lex, Jimmy, and Siobhan manage to escape safely. However, any chance of using Lex to help them remains out of reach, as Lex doesn't even remember who he is.

Elsewhere, a powerless Superman travels with one of DC's most powerful magic users, Zatanna, to discover a way to fight Amanda Waller. Their travels lead them to the Parliament of Trees, where they find Swamp Thing already under attack. The two barely escape to the Oblivion Bar, where they seek help in finding the Map of Mordru. They find help in the most unlikely of places: Neron, the new owner of the Map of Mordru. He wants a deal to give up the map, but are Zatanna and Superman willing to bargain with him?

My Adventures with Superman #4 sees Superman and Amazo protect Clark's family

Amazo is hiding from Amanda Waller and her henchmen, but that doesn't mean he can't learn a thing or two about the holidays! Jonathan and Martha Kent teach Amazo about the meaning of Christmas spirit and the importance of sharing it with family, while Lois and Jimmy try to continue planning the best Christmas Clark has ever had.

Before they can get too far into the festivities, however, Clark and Amazo are forced to fight off Task Force X and Team 7 at the same time. Clark allows Amazo to copy some of his powers to help them win the battle, but only for the time being. While their guard is down, someone manages to attack Amazo, leaving Superman to defend the defenseless robot alone.

Batman/Superman: The Best in the World #30 Take Superman and Batman to visit Themyscira

Batman/Superman: The Best in the World brings another fantastic Wonder Woman team-up comic as they tell the story of the Trinity's first great adventure. Here, Batman, Superman, and Robin travel to Paradise Island to solve a locked-room murder mystery. Although Wonder Woman and the Amazons have done their best to solve a murder without clues, when they show up with no answers, Diana turns to the only two heroes she trusts for help. But when even Batman's investigation turns up nothing, they stumble upon the real answer: there's AND no murder.

After realizing this, the real culprit presents itself: Dolos and Apate, the god of deception and goddess of deception, respectively. With all the Amazons in one place, Dolos is free to steal Prometheus' fire, allowing them to turn their illusions into reality. It is only the iron will of all three members of the DC Trinity that causes the gods to relinquish control of the fire again. Weakened, the Amazons are able to banish them from Themyscira forever.
