The legions of Harry Potter Fans around the world are still mourning the passing of acting legend Dame Maggie Smith, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall in seven films. Harry Potter movie. Tributes from his past co-stars poured in, but perhaps the most touching was seen outside Hogwarts Castle at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Dame Maggie Smith died on September 27 at the age of 89 and many of her past colleagues have paid some loving tributes. However, one of the cutest moments honoring the late actress was captured by social media user, Adventuring with Annie, which showed a large group of people standing outside Hogwarts Castle at Universal Studios Orlando, raising his chopsticks in a symbolic salute to SmitH. The raising of the chopsticks seen in the video evokes the image of the emotional sending seen in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince after the death of Professor Albus Dumbledore.

Smith played the beloved Professor Minerva McGonagall in seven of the eight Harry Potter film, as she did not appear Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Interestingly, his fellow co-star in those films, Daniel Radcliffe, was no stranger before filming the first Harry Potter films together, as they both starred in the 1999 television miniseries, David Copperfieldaired on the BBC. Radcliffe recently paid tribute to the late actress, as did the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. Through her X account, the author posted a photo of Smith as Professor McGonagall and wrote: “Somehow I thought she would live forever. RIP Mrs. Maggie Smith.”
Dame Maggie Smith has had a legendary career
Smith's legendary career spanned decades, and Harry Potter was just a sliver of everything he accomplished during his career. While Potter fans will always remember her as Professor McGonagall, Smith will also be remembered for another immensely popular property, Downton Abbey. Smith played Violet Crawley for all six seasons of the show and also appeared in the film version, Downton Abbey (2019).
In both films, the Oscar-winning actress appeared alongside Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Superior Sister Act AND Sister act 2: Back in the habitand Goldberg recently addressed the passing via his Instagram account. Accompanying a photo of the two, Goldberg wrote, “Maggie Smith was a great woman and a brilliant actress. I still can't believe I was lucky enough to work with such a “one of a kind” character. My deepest condolences go out to the family…RIP.”
