Creature Commandos Gets Progress Update From James Gunn After Release Date Reveal

DC Studios co-head James Gunn recently hinted at the number of full episodes of Commando Creatures he looked. Before this, Commando Creatures had finally gotten a release date.

Gunn raised this topic on Threads, telling a curious fan: “I have watched all 7 of them in animated form many times. 1 and 2 are done. And 3, 4 and 5 are almost done.” To bring to light Commando Creatures Yes, Alan Tudyk praised James Gunn's scripts in Juneconfessing at the time that when he read it, “It was the best thing I'd read in a long time, and it was moving.”

Tudyk then added: “And that's what James Gunn does so well. I can't wait for people to see it. I've seen some of it already and it looks really cool. [James’] writing, guys, it's so beautiful. It's so beautiful. Personally, I realized that I was the perfect audience for him. He does that thing that Joss Whedon did so well, right where he is… There's humor in everything.”

“I have watched all 7 in animated form many times. 1 and 2 are completed. And 3, 4, and 5 are almost completed.”

Prior to that, David Harbour opened up about playing Eric Frankenstein in 2023, saying that the most interesting thing to him about Frankenstein’s monster is that he was “created to be this kind of erudite, intellectual, romantic, brilliant person, and he ends up being a monster.” Harbour continued, “I mean, that complexity can make for some pretty mature comedy and also a pathos, that a guy who sees himself as one thing, is seen by other people as something very different.” Harbour also elaborated on how long he would be playing Eric, saying that he feels like it’s this new world where studios “don’t box you in anymore,” and that Marvel Studios has learned that lesson as well.

Getting back to Gunn, Gunn dove into sharing Rick Flag Sr.'s Frank Grillo in Commando Creatures AND Peacemaker Season 2. In relation to this, Gunn stated in May: “Happy to announce the big [Frank Grillo] will reprise his role as Rick Flag, Sr. – the role he will play for the first time in animated form in Commando Creatures – throughout the second season of PeacemakerChristopher Smith and Rick Sr. have a little unfinished business to take care of…”

More recently, Gunn touched on the topic of what sets apart Commando Creaturesfrom the Guardians of the Galaxy team, communicating that he is “used to dealing with strange, irregular and odd types”, going on to note that this is what Guardians it is, and that Commando Creatures it's a bit like Guardians “without sentimentality.”

Commando Creatures will officially debut on Max on December 5th.
