Monster! The monster is back! Wow! Haute-couture-asaurus RPG Monster Hunter Wilds is still a little while away from its TBC 2025 release date, and after a flurry of cinematic trailers, Capcom has finally given us some tasty Real Details. These come in the form of three short videos uploaded to the official Monster Hunter channel today, detailing the basics, focus mode, and the great sword’s moveset.
The 'Basic Mechanics' video should be familiar territory for anyone who's dabbled in the monster-stomping-majestic-merkin pipeline before, but we get a closer look at Seikret, your lizard mount that can carry a second loadout in its pocket. A small but welcome addition is a grappling hook attachment for your wrist slingshot, which lets you pick up herbs and such from a distance and drop icicles on your enemies. You can even use it while mounted.
The bulk of the new additions are hidden in the Focus Mode trailer. Monster Hunter World’s camera can often be its deadliest enemy without some menu tweaking, so this new precision aiming mode is a welcome one. With Focus mode, you’ll be able to better direct your attacks and parries, and highlight monster wounds for more damage. And because it’s Monster Hunter, the gradual wounding of the monster as the fight progresses is all fleshed out, gruesome, and perfectly rendered.
And that’s your lot for now, Capcom says. Don’t blame me, I voted for more. Wait, you’re saying Edwin has more? He got involved with Wilds himself in June and has since penned a memoir for his beloved Alpha Doshaguma. “You’re such a son of a bitch, I just looked at him from across the auditorium and smiled and gave him the thumbs up,” Edwin recalled, like a man who shouldn’t be allowed to play Monster Hunter anymore and who needs to have all the codes when they come. “You dirty bear-hunting scum. Revenge! Revenge for the monsters! Revenge for Alpha Doshaguma!”
