The successful horror sequel The house is back will soon terrorize Netflix subscribers. Set to stream on Netflix next month, the film’s new home comes with a warning from franchise star Bruce Campbell.
In the first three evil Dead film, Campbell played Ash Williams, an unlikely hero who becomes a master Deadite hunter after adopting a chainsaw as a new hand to replace the one he lost. Campbell no longer stars in evil Dead film, although he remains involved as a producer for the franchise. The latest installment in the film series, produced by Campbell, The house is backIt was recently Netflix announced to start streaming on September 23Campbell shared the announcement on X with an additional message that stated: “Hide the kids. Really.”
Written and directed by Lee Cronin, The house is back was released in 2023. It was originally developed as a streaming release, intended to go straight to Max, but its test screenings were so positive that the decision was made to screen the horror film in theaters. It was a good decision, as The house is back grossed over $147 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of less than $20 million. Reviews were also positive, with most fans welcoming the new film.
Campbell no longer plays Ash in a live-action capacity, as he has aged out of the heavily physical role. However, he did have a voice cameo in The house is backas can be heard in an audio recording played in the film. Cronin implied after the film's release that this voice is actually that of Campbell's Ash character, although the recording is said to be from 1923. This suggests that Ash somehow ended up in the past, which wouldn't be the first time the character has traveled through time, as The Army of Darkness fans will know.
“Bruce came over to Ireland while we were working on the sound and I asked him if he would do this tiny, tiny cameo for me. And the funny part is that it’s not necessarily Bruce Campbell playing someone else, it could easily be Ash Williams,” Cronin told NME.
The house is back also stars Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols and Nell Fisher. Campbell serves as executive producer with the original evil Dead director Sam Raimi, while the producer is Rob Tapert.
Will Evil Dead get a sequel?
A direct sequel has not been announced at this time. The house is backbut it's not out of the realm of possibility, with the franchise still in full swing. A separate film from Sébastien Vaniček is currently in the works, but it's expected to be another standalone story that isn't directly connected to the events of the original trilogy or The house is backMeanwhile, Campbell also teased that an animated series is in the works, which would be the second show for the franchise after Ash vs Evil Dead.
The house is back will be available to stream on Netflix on September 23.
