Birdhouse quickly rose to prominence when it was released in 2018, and while the film's suspenseful atmosphere kept fans on the edge of their seats, the ending left many questions unanswered. The true horror of the plot lies in the fact that the film's monsters were not something that could be fought, only avoided. Humanity is forced to hide from these invisible villains and hope that this will be enough to stay safe. However, given how the film's events unfolded, even the safest places often feel like they're living on borrowed time.
Despite its terrifying premise, Birdhouse ends on a note of hope as its protagonist, Malorie, finds refuge for her family. She has also completed her emotional journey after hardening herself to avoid further pain, but has finally reopened her heart after the harrowing journey to the ultimate refuge. However, as unexpected as its happy ending is, questions still remain about the film's conclusion and whether there is more to come for this post-apocalyptic world.

Bird Box Barcelona Cast Talks Theories About Evil Creatures and Horrific Deaths
In an interview with CBR, Georgina Campbell and Diego Calva talk about blindfold scares, death, and on-site shootings
The apocalypse in Birdhouse it's unique, like deprives humanity of the sense of sight, but not in a literal sense. Through unknown means and origins, creatures known as Entities spread across the planet. They are never physically seen on screen, but their effect is immediate. Just looking at them drives most people to commit suicide, and they often do so in gruesome ways that fuel the horror-driven narrative of the story. To avoid this fate, the human survivors have taken to blindfolding themselves when they go out and sealing any openings to the outside world in whatever shelters they can find.
For a time, this is the fate of the film's protagonist, Malorie. Soon after the apocalypse begins, she finds a small group of survivors taking refuge in a house, sealing it from the outside for safety. Unfortunately, death is not the only thing that entities can cause. In some people, the entities appear to them as “beautiful”, leading these “seers” to try to convince other people to look at the entities.
One of these seers managed to infiltrate Malorie's group and eliminate them one by one, leaving only Malorie, her husband Tom, and two children as survivors. One of these children was Malorie's biological son, and the other was the daughter of Malorie's friend Olympia, who was also killed in the attack. The film then jumped forward five years, with Malorie and Tom raising the children as their own, even though Initially Malorie refuses to give them names, referring to them simply as “Boy” and “Girl.” Although they had managed to build a life for themselves during this apocalypse, they realized that it was not possible to remain in their shelter, especially if something happened to the adults.

John Carpenter's 15 Scariest Horror or Suspense Movies
John Carpenter is considered a master of horror for good reason. Films like In the Mouth of Madness and The Ward are guaranteed to shock viewers.
In an attempt to survive, Malorie, Tom, and their children learn of a sanctuary deep in the woods that is supposedly safe. To get there, they would have to travel by boat. Unfortunately, almost immediately after leaving the safety of their home, they are attacked by more seers, forcing Tom to open his eyes to fight them off before taking his own life. Malorie is left to make this harrowing journey alone and is separated from her children. in the process. The entities, sensing an opportunity, try to convince the children to remove their bandages. This eventually prompts Malorie to admit how much she loves the children, even though she has tried to maintain an emotional distance from them her entire lives.
Against all odds, Malorie and her children manage to reunite and find a refuge before it's too late. As it turns out, this bastion was once a school for the blind and had become a safe haven for dozens of others who wanted to live (relatively) normal lives together. The film ends with Malorie naming her children Tom and Olympia and finally admitting that she was their mother. The family was now safe for the foreseeable future and had a much better chance of thriving with other people.
Even better, Malorie ends Birdhouse after going through a complete emotional arc. When the apocalypse began, Malorie suffered tragic and horrific losses. Her older sister died at the hands of the entities, then nearly all of her fellow survivors were wiped out by the manipulations of a seer, proving that even other human survivors might not be safe. Finally, Tom was taken from her, once again protecting them from the human threat posed by this world. Malorie also nearly lost her children before she had a chance to express how much she loved them. Their brush with death, as well as their new home, finally pushed Malorie to let down her barriers and embrace her new identity as a mother.

A24's Upcoming Horror Film From Talk to Me Directors Gets Major Filming Update
Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou have shared a positive update on the current status of production on their latest horror film for A24.
The reality of Malorie's story is that it only tells a small part of the bigger picture. Malorie is not an important person whose destiny it is to one day defeat the entities. She is just a human who is lucky enough to survive long enough to find a place to escape. His story is representative of what humanity may have to endure as a whole, but it is not the only response to the threat. this is the entity. In fact, there are many things about the world of Birdhouse that are in desperate need of exploration.
To begin with, there is still no definitive answer as to what these entities are. Some theories postulate that they are aliens seeking to destroy humanity through mental attacks. Another suggests that they are demons targeting humanity's worst fears and pain. Another even suggests that they are extradimensional beings observing the world from their reality. BirdhouseBarcelona focuses a lot on this aspect, proving that the franchise still has a lot of room to grow beyond the confines of the book.
The most important thing of all is this: humanity cannot survive this way. They need space to grow and cannot sustain themselves in closed spaces forever. Eventually, they must find a way to fight these entities. Again, Birdhouse Barcelona offered a hint along these lines, with scientists eventually working on a type of antibody which could make them immune to the entities and their influence. The films end with the apocalypse still in progress, but each offers a more hopeful note, suggesting that humanity may eventually find its way back.
