Beetle Juice Beetle Juice It might prove worth waiting for 36 years later Beetle Juice debuted and became a cult classic. However, franchise director Tim Burton suggests that fans shouldn't wait for a third installment at all, because he doesn't see it happening.
Via Deadline, Burton spoke about the possibilities of another Beetle Juice film ahead of its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in Italy. After years of development hiccups and a sequel that came to fruition so long after the original, Burton believes it’s unlikely there will be a third installment. “Let’s do the math. It took 35 years to do this,” Burton said at a press event. “For another, I would be over 100 years old [years old]This could be possible thanks to medical science. But I really don't think so..”
It might be possible thanks to medical science. But I don't think so.
Burton's comments come after Beetle Juice Beetle Juice Producer Tommy Harper recently left open the possibility of a threequel. After Beetle Juice became a critical and box office success, winning an Oscar, Burton attempted several times to launch a sequel, including Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiianin which Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder signed on to star after it was initially proposed in 1990. However, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian underwent several rewrites and development hell before being scrapped, with Burton confirming that other ideas for a sequel were scrapped before Beetle Juice Beetle Juice got the green light from Warner Bros. in 2022.
It took 36 years for Beetlejuice to get a sequel
When Burton was recently asked why it took 36 years for a Beetle Juice sequel to reach public consciousness, insisted that he wanted fans to be comfortable with Ryder's character, Lydia Deetz, as she had inspired him to make a sequel. Ryder convinced Burton to make Beetle Juice Beetle Juice after holding secret meetings for several years with the director. Burton also admitted that he had not watched the original Beetle Juice during the making of the sequel, but “remembered the spirit of it” as he put it together.

The film also stars Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter, Astrid.
